Am sure the only person who thinks $40-50 for a cotton t shirt is outrageous?

Even thinking 100% cotton is a great selling point surprises me.

It's just cotton, we have been wearing it for 100's of years.

First time in over 20 years climbing the Raupaki track.

In the intervening time it seems to have got a lot steeper .

Old age is a bitch.

I look for a book in the lounge.
Check everywhere, under coffee table, under sofas, on kitchen table.

Complain to wife.
She finds it immediately on coffee table.

Later..
Lost a sock, repeat search, include other rooms.

Complain.

She finds it also on the coffee table.

Does anyone else watch Apple TV+?

We are currently watching Pachinko, but in the early evenings, about 8pm on the Apple TV refuses to load and just runs the spinning icon. This happens for all shows.

Its like its being throttled.

All other streaming services work OK.

Did my yearly visit to the Riverside Market in central Otatahi, Christchurch.

As usual overwhelmed by the big variety of food and drinks and the number of people.

Buy a coffee and leave hungry.

Worldwide mortality experience since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2024) shows excess deaths over that period in almost every country measured. Australia (+6%) was below average, and New Zealand (+0.1%) the lowest we measured.

Today I learned about a mockumentary Forgotten Silver by Peter Jackson that shocked NZ in 1996.

I totally missed it.

How this 'doco' fooled - and enraged - a nation
OPINION: The film made out there was a giant concrete movie set the size of a small city hidden somewhere in the dense West Coast bush.

Why do we keep putting up with poor leaders?

This article focuses on Israel and it's poor leadership but the principles it talks about are universal.

#OTD in 1893, #NewZealand became the first self-governing country to hold an election in which women were allowed to vote.

As I researched a bit into this, a whole sheep-load of fascinating anecdotes & interesting details emerged, so here's a light-hearted 🧵 not just for #history buffs (I hope).

I have just discovered that the basil inside smells suspiciously like cat pee.

So much so I was wondering how a cat got in.

I check Geekzone once a week to see what is new, I don't contribute much so I don't support it. I have to triage my donations.

This morning the following unpassable banner appeared. So you can't see any content unless you pay.

A sad end to a good place

The problem with AI generated book covers is that they are so ugly it would put people off reading them.

Certainly the cat one is just awful.

They should be banned on that basis alone

As a new Zealander this list is appalling.

Steak and cheese
Mince and cheese
Mince with a mashed potato top

Steak, mince and cheese

I am a victim of my own hubris.

1/2 way up Kennedy's bush track in the port hills.

Legs aching, the climb up the road exhausting, the wind unrelenting.

But it's easy I said, I have the bike and look at the other tracks I overcame!

I have finally worked out why my $10 toaster makes such uneven toast.

The middle element (s?), that has to cook both sides, so needs more power but only glows a dark red, whereas the outer element glows bright red.

Therefore its wired wrong, as the middle element needs twice as much power.
