Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

A thick line of low clouds on the horizon with otherwise clear skies makes for the most uninspiring of sunrises.

That was the setting this morning, Friday, 7 December at Okitu Beach, Aotearoa / New Zealand. But the waves are beautiful.

Ata mārie / Good Morning ☀️.
I really like to know exactly how that works
I mean that quake was only about 50km away & before the tremors reach me it's detected, the information is processed somewhere & the Google alert is sent to my phone. Sometimes the future is really amazing
It really is amazing that I get the alert on my phone before I feel the tremors #eqnz

Kia ora e hoa mā. I'm pleased to announce that I'm coming out of retirement to take up the role of Chief of Staff role for the Green Party in Parliament (think Malcolm Tucker, Leo McGarry). I'm not moving away from Te Tai o Poutini, but just now going the process of setting up a 2nd home in Wgtn.

Mamdani: "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves. After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him."

🧵Spotted on an Evening River Walk in Aotearoa New Zealand:

Three women (20s-50s?) are leisurely floating in a riverbend water hole.
Hair piled up on their heads.
Hands swooshing idly, keeping them buoyed.
Toes peeking out of the water like little piggy wiggies, curious to see what's going on. (1)

Watch this with sound on for a wee chuckle - she’s such a little weirdo.

Please just let me type in the year I was born. No more scrolling. We don’t have to keep doing this to each other.
Forget politics, climate change, war, who's asking the really important questions? Namely, who decided people from the Philippines should be called Filipinos, rather than Philippinos?

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as “a bunch of mindless jerks who’ll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes,”
I've been getting back into the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series after many years, and the most relatable part is how everyday objects like doors and elevators have been imbued with artificial intelligence and it just makes them obnoxious and frustrating to use and everyone hates it.

Pre-sunrise, Monday, 3 November, from Wainui Beach, Aotearoa / New Zealand.

Ata mārie / Good Morning ☀️

(it’s hard to accurately capture the brilliance of the colors and the hues with a phone camera. But no saturation adjustments were made for this video)
Having said that, if this is a case of kidney problems then this is probably a rearguard action & we're nearing the end #teorangawhaikurī
Anti-nausea meds seem to have helped. Dinner was eaten, although with less than normal enthusiasm. I'm hoping that's just a combo of low blood sugar & the fact that he hasn't had any pain meds since yesterday morning. 🤞that we'll back to normal tomorrow #teorangawhaikurī
As a bus driver I've got to say, wtf is going on in Auckland the last couple of years? Crashes, fires, assaults, a death after a fight between a driver & passenger, etc. I know there are a lot of buses in Auckland, but in the same period I can only recall one similarly serious incident in Wellington
