It was AMAZING. I think about 15% of the houses in that neighborhood were celebrating Diwali. Lots of other folks walking around with their kids to exchange holiday greetings with their Desi neighbors.

It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

The thing that really gets me about the Platner tattoo is his response on the Pod Save America podcast (to a VERY generous interviewer) seemed mostly focused on "well no one ever told me it was a Nazi tattoo" instead of taking ownership and being horrified to learn he has a Nazi tattoo.

The N.C. Triangle has a huge Desi population and I am blessed to have friends in that community. I have such a warm memory of sitting on my porch in October 2022 & wondering why people were setting off fireworks nearby only to realize that folks celebrating Diwali had moved to my neighborhood. 💜

I 100% agree that protesting alone is not enough but 7 million people showed up on Saturday. In all 50 states. In big cities and small towns.

Respectfully, a giant protest march seems like a GREAT place to "find your people and build something real."
