I cant believe we all witnessed the richest man in the world buy a president and then dismantle our government and social safety net -- and we haven't learned the lesson that these freaks need to be taxed more.

it’s fun watching people see what trans folks have been warning of for years. the media has no capacity to inform about the politicization of health care
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

I just saw a headline describing the incredible work yesterday of preventing dozens of ICE from doing a mass raid on Canal st as "police arrest and pepper spray dozens of people outside garage". That IS NOT the story!!!

So grateful to everyone in NYC who mobilized to stop the ICE raid of Canal St. The violence being committed against immigrants is heart-wrenching, but the shows of solidarity we have seen around the country give me so much hope.

We are already a nation that can’t rely on our eyes and ears. The documentary “Outfoxed” came out in 2004, proving that America was being fed propaganda as news, and nothing was done. Fast forward to today, and we have an alternate reality being fed to folks as “news”.

Reporting like this makes people unreasonably afraid when crime is down, promotes the fraud that more prosecution would make them safer, and more basically, eats away at basic notions of truth and integrity on which a more beautiful world would need to be based.

In addition to brain rot and AI, brain fog from Long COVID is surely a factor as well. Especially for this generation who were students in schools that let COVID run wild with no testing, no clean air policies, and of course no masking.
This is not a "students today" post--it's more "this is a new form of dysfunction" that doesn't look exactly like it's been in previous decades. It's more than just "first-year chaos." It's an across-the-board inability to process instructions, engage with longer texts, and *connect* with others.

The legal, media, and academic institutions capitulating to an authoritarian ordering payments for favorable treatment are damning themselves to irrelevance. They are destroying their institutions. They will be — and should be — shunned for failing in their most basic purposes for existing.
BREAKING: Northwestern University has agreed to pay the U.S. Treasury $75 million, over the course of three years as part of an agreement with the federal government to restore funding and end investigations into the university

The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.

This is me all the time, but especially at work. Everything that isn't stopping genocide and restoring democracy feels kind of pointless (even though it actually isn't).
The worst part is the constant gaslighting. My fears of what would happen have come true over and over and over again. And yet I am still told I am alarmist and overreacting. How anyone can just work and do laundry and buy groceries and not be thinking about what is happening ALL THE TIME?

Underrated part of the Internet's development into one of the vectors for distributing news and thought about the news is that US & Western Europe's totally unique indifference to the colonial aspects of the Palestinian issue are now constantly put up against the unanimity of the rest of the world.
Basically she misconstrued what Third Worldism is and what Mamdani's anti-Zionism in practice means and insisted that Mamdani's worldview is first and foremost centered on Israel being the vanguard of European colonialism. It is true he thinks Zionism is colonialism but she doesn't understand him.

At some point you just gotta trust the other person will do the right thing. Or at least the sensible thing or the thing agreed upon.

Eroding trust is eroding the foundations of society.

A society without a stable foundation is easier to prey on by those looking only after their own gain.
