The most charitable reading is that being a general is a very high stress job, and they believe (wrongly) this is like relying on their staff to give them analysis and data.

Uncharitably, these are shitty generals who want every lazy shortcut they can get.

That was obviously a good idea for parody, but you could do a more dramatic version of the same situation, which meant THEY could do it (but as you said, with more jokes involved) without feeling out of place. The Cerritos crew had issues, but they weren't outright incompetent or malicious.

Also, it's fertile story ground even outside of parody! The only show like it-with a VERY different tone-was DS9. Every other Trek show until PIC was about either flagships for their time (TOS, TNG, ENT), or experimental vessels (VOY, DISC). LD were the B team who handled the next step or three.

It’s the best kind of parody: out of love, even at its most incisive.

Also, doing a whole new crew instead of a Mad style “The Blecch Generation” take on a previous show means no gross mischaracterization as the show’s basis.

Six word IT horror story:

"No expected impact from this change."

This is 100% serious. Those women positively contributed more to culture-both in Italy and every other country-than Columbus ever did.
talestoenrage.bsky.social
Every Italian grandmother, who knew how and why to use all the different kinds of pasta beyond spaghetti, are more deserving of their own day than Columbus.

Most of his 20 years of being lost was his own fault, wasn't it? He decided it was a good idea to insult Poseidon and had a "found out" decade.

(Partly because he died in said war, but also I suspect that was just an expedient to not talking about him rather than the true cause)

One of Alexander Hamilton's buddies in the Revolutionary War was John Laurens, a South Carolinian who explicitly said "we need to free our slaves to be honest about Liberty," and tried multiple times to push freedom through military service plans that got shut down.

Wonder why he's not discussed.

one other side of this is something that I try to emphasize to my students: "what does freedom actually mean" is not a 21stC issue anachronistically read backwards into the 18thC. The US, French, and Haitian Revolutions happened at more or less the same time, with an overlapping cast of characters

one reason this is important is that it makes so much about the period more emotionally legible. when lafayette is asking washington why he won’t just free his slaves, it isn’t an abstract thing; dude is literally at mount vernon and seeing all of these human beings in bondage!

"Don't think of bangers"

Already doing that.

There's never a shortage of artists who are ready and able to do paid work, but there's always a shortage of rich people willing to pay for it.

The main reason I dropped GTA 4 and never bought 5.

While I remain committed to the opinion Paramount are cowards for not wanting to do a serious Star Trek show set immediately post-Dominion war, I do think doing an Academy show far in the future is better than the Kirk and Spock Academy show they were kicking around for years.

The desk clerk is sweating profusely as you approach. Their mouth is dry, their tongue feels alien.

That’s about what I expected. And I’m sure there have been fine and even good Vampirella comics, just not someone I expect to bring in a lot of interest and sales.
talestoenrage.bsky.social
Unless someone like @mikester.bsky.social tells me otherwise, I assume every Vampirella comic has a dye pack inside that paints you red, like you just opened a pack of money from the bank vault.
talestoenrage.bsky.social
If they wanted to do a big fight comic with a bunch of weird, out of left field guest stars, SNK was the obvious choice (You might be thinking Street Fighter and you’re not wrong, but Capcom would absolutely get weirdly high-handed about it).
talestoenrage.bsky.social
I’m not fundamentally opposed to crossovers, but the DC KO reveals at NYCC looks stupid in a bad way. Oh, wow, Vampirella, a character even most comics readers would respond with “I think I saw that in the store a few times.”
talestoenrage.bsky.social
I can see keeping it as a funny anecdote, like with Mel Brooks talking about throwing notes in the trash can after verbally agreeing to every change listed, but the anecdote has to actually be funny for that to work. Someone going "Not sure this looks good" doesn't fit.

Bumping this one last time. I’m down to $300! Anything helps, even if it’s just a share!
allnewdom.bsky.social
I got a day of clemency on this today but I still have $400 I absolutely must raise by tomorrow morning before I have to leave for work. Any bit helps, especially just sharing this when you see it to get it in front of more eyeballs. I just don’t want to lose my roof this week.
allnewdom.bsky.social
I sincerely thought I wouldn’t need to do this this week, but something fell through and now I need to raise $800 by Thursday to pay for our room and to get to and from work til next payday. If you’re able to spare anything, even a share, it would be tremendous.

Anything helps!

I definitely thought about bringing in Pat Boone earlier, but then I decided that would be very unfair to everyone else in this.
talestoenrage.bsky.social
I definitely blame the system he was in more than the man himself for it, but yeah. I'm not saying Elvis was some kind of secret saint about his contemporaries, but I doubt he was giving orders to suppress other artists.

A lot like Elvis Presley's popularity, and if rock hadn't become mainstream in white America it would be an even more apt comparison.
