Another day - another Necron is coming to an end.

(Final) Day #34

Posting a daily Murderbot picture in #JHBackdrops mode till I get bored or forget it or (in this case) run out of Necrons.

Today: The Boss! Overlord Sethibor the unyielding - bringer of despair

“Those insects had the audacity to build little nests in our backyard while we were asleep. But we are going to smoke them out. (Overlord Sethibor during the massacre in the Cathedral of Lorech.)”

We have had just so many tears in our playtests for BEOWULF Age of Heroes games. Players invest massively in their Followers, and then if they die, good grief. Literally. We’ve also had some amazing customer tales along these lines. Fathers playing with daughters, finding great stories together.
handiworkgames.bsky.social
Thank you. I think we did the right thing. Both in investigating it as an apparently new medium, and then in rejecting it as entirely incompatible with our aims and values. Glad you think better things came out of it.

The “handiwork” part isn’t lip service. Packing sets of FiveEvil intensity coasters this morning reading for dispatch.

Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland is the ENnie-nominated storytelling game of the psychedelic Mesolithic. Honestly, if that sounds bad, we can't sell you on it.

Puppets, sets, smoke, 3d printed pony skulls, Maskwitches has the lot.
Three Maskwitches puppets - figures with ragged clothes and masks made out of seeds and nut shells. An evil spirit from Forgotten Doggerland. It's made of black shiny stuff with hair. The book Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland

At the end of last week I'd made a fairly intense very short video promoting Cold City. You might have seen it. Anyway I accidentally dropped the wrong footage into the project. Compelling and motivating stuff for a Monday morning. Good luck with your week.
handiworkgames.bsky.social
Oof. Maybe it should remain as a memory.
handiworkgames.bsky.social
There’s a thing we’re working on, and we’re not quite ready to go loud on it yet, properly, but gosh, working with @floaker.bsky.social and Gregor Hutton is just magical, kicking the ball around and everyone is adding so much.

Amazing Paul Bourne art because I’m a horrible tease.
A digital illustration of a curiously vintage/sci-fi train, with a lone figure walking alongside it.

Factually UK, spiritually… opinion remains divided. OR DOES IT oh no
handiworkgames.bsky.social
Pausing to reflect because I think we’re talking at cross purposes here. In doing a rueful, jokey post with Graham about the generalised loss of the history of the UK scene, I’m not criticising you or the article.

It is simultaneously ok for it to be “not about that”, while G and myself lament it.
handiworkgames.bsky.social
I’m confused, I’m sorry - so it’s not an interview with someone from
the earlier uk scene, which I took you to mean - your (entirely reasonable) meaning is that it’s just one interview, and can’t cover everything?
handiworkgames.bsky.social
Luckily no one made that accusation! And I’m very happy to lose my entire pound if the UK scene is covered/mentioned/referenced.

I don’t support Rascal, so who is the interview with if that’s ok to ask?
handiworkgames.bsky.social
Take the role of the Wee Folk of Polmont Burn in this story game of fragmentary childhood memory and battling miseries. The newly updated edition is entirely standalone, and uses the same rules as the ENnie-nominated Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland.

I also believe, truly, that the dray horse which was injured was called “Irn Bru”. Just looking for evidence of that now.

“Lightning struck the [falkirk] Steeple in June 1927, badly damaging it. Casualties were Barr's delivery horse which was struck by falling masonry and Isabella Barr who lived beside the Steeple and whose leg was broken. The Steeple was built of stone from Brightons Quarry” FASCINATING FACTS
A vintage photo of the Falkirk steeple after it was struck by lightning.

(I post these things and then I think “did that really happen? Have I remembered that correctly?” Ah the instability of memory. So appropriate to the game.) @malcolmcraig.bsky.social am I remembering this right?

Cold City 1e (and indeed all of the Contested Ground first editions) make really great use of in world documents. And the manuscript for Cold City 2e initially collected them together for ease of editing. But reading them en masse? It created really powerful scene setting. So we kept them together.
mrtimnewman.bsky.social
Haven't made it to the game yet but the scene setting at the start of Cold War by @handiworkgames.bsky.social is brilliant. More RPGs should introduce the world through fake documents.
handiworkgames.bsky.social
I was thinking about rewatching* MASH.

251 (or 256, depending on who you believe) episodes. That’s quite a lot of watching.

*this assumes I saw it all in the first place. Which I suspect I did not.
handiworkgames.bsky.social
Nice.

Evening repost with a peek behind the scenes.

The full Monolith will also make an appearance soon but I’ve recognized some parts that just need a little more work.
