Oh, I get it. It never mattered if the development of AI was successful or profitable or people liked it or used it at all – all that mattered was that we get to the point where nobody fully trusts anything they see, reality is always questionable, and plausible deniability rules. Proof evaporates.

Was this actually surprising or was I the only one who noticed that women in his books were sex objects

I have a lot of Isaac Asimov books I like, but I wasn't going to assume he was a good man
To everyone just now finding out Isaac Asimov was rather famously a sex pest: He's been gone 34 years now, you can handle this truth, I believe in you

All in all, while Le's frustrated asides got the most attention, this hearing is most shocking for how little control there is over ICE. Even an experienced and respected AUSA like Anna Voss can't get them within a mile of compliance.

i know that this is an unpopular take, but everyone starting their own newsletter as a revenue stream is not a sustainable model for writing and reporting or for people who love and want to pay for media.
A lot of people cannot just start a paid newsletter or become freelancers to sustain their careers. The sports, metro, and international desks did work that requires *team* resources, like legal checks, documents, access to archives, and long-term beat experience.

Do my air quality reports take tear gas into account? How much tear gas do you think is in Minneapolis yesterday and today?

Breathing has been such a struggle lately, and now my eyes hurt too. I'd like a reason why.

the $75 million Jeff Bezos set on fire for that Melania propaganda piece could have funded most independent newsrooms for literally decades
always bears repeating that this is NOT a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post
WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Post says one-third of its staff across all departments, not just the newsroom, is being laid off.

Getting ready for an appointment in Minneapolis like:

Got masks? Got snazzy new glasses? Got their goggle accessory? Got whistles? Got water in case of accidental exposure to chemicals?

You know, if you live in Minneapolis and are not really okay right now, I get it. No one should feel normal.

Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera.

Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.

the reason I'm so heated right now is Ilhan Omar has been thrown to the wolves so many times by the Democratic establishment for saying the things the Dems are finally, YEARS LATER starting to say.

To say aloud that the vice president is friends with Nazis and to point out that his Holocaust tweet is crafted so as not to offend them is to sound crazy to everyone who doesn’t know both are stone cold facts. Frustrating thing.
Legitimately a feat of carefully calculated writing to issue a Holocaust Remembrance Day statement of this length without mentioning either (1) the people who perpetrated the Holocaust or (2) the people against whom they perpetrated it

I was always told that one of the central lessons of the Shoah is that legal, juridical regimes can still be immoral. The claim that Anne Frank was in Amsterdam "legally" is false, but more than that, the question "Was Anne Frank an illegal?" is so grossly missing the point of Holocaust remembrance.
To avoid the possibility Holocaust remembrance might lead to empathy for migrants, Trump's antisemitism envoy claims Anne Frank "was in Amsterdam legally."

In reality, Margot Frank received a summons to go to a labor camp on July 5, 1942. After ignoring this call, they were in Amsterdam illegally.
