One thing I hate is how good TPUSA and conservative astroturf groups are at using public opinion pressure to reverse decisions they know are not in line with any collegiate standard.

This essay was beyond subpar but attaching religious liberty allows donors to threaten the school + do their work.
idk not to mention how very nuanced and normal the actual response here was

Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

Don't look up!

If my car had “$30,000 worth of damage” it would be a pile of ash and I‘d be buying myself and the 2-4ish people I parked next to completely new cars.

Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI

Oral argument in Sela v. J. H., shaping up to be a landmark fight on Minnesota's eviction expungement statute, will be held tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at the Minnesota Supreme Court. I'm going to try to attend in person, although I don't know how much live commentary I'll be able to offer.
Hot off the presses: the Minnesota Supreme Court has granted review in Sela Investments Ltd. v. J. H., A24-1380. This sets up a fight at the high court over the shocking Court of Appeals decision which invalidated part of Minnesota's updated eviction expungement statute.

It's only a matter of time before humanities departments will be forced to accept AI-authored assignments, as part of revised university policy to cooperate with these billionaires. It's already happening, and our response needs to be decisive. Because our students' ability to *think* is at stake.

this is where I am at, because I feel like the mindset that we need to "explore" "AI" and "what it has to offer" just leads to an unresolvable contradiction. it's basically this dril tweet tbh, I'm sure I'm not the first to make this comparison

For years (and YEARS) I've been saying do not trust VAERS reports. There is no vetting, no statistical relevancy. It's pure anecdote.
Pretty much ANY statistic you see cited to frighten you about vaccines comes from the VAERS database. (Including the recent evidence-free missive from Vinay Prasad). Here's why VAERS can NEVER be a proper source for population-level vaccine risk estimates.

Ex-official explained this in a way that will stick with me forever: Within fire departments, the EMTs are overworked and underpaid and don’t have time to advocate for policy. The fire chiefs, on the other hand, have a lot more time on their hands. So fire response, not medical, dictates policy.
