This is shocking.

Who suffers most when there are not enough teachers?
www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

“Australia’s teacher shortages are among the worst in the world, an international report found, & disadvantaged and remote schools are suffering the most.”
It would be less of a problem if our taxes weren’t used to subsidise private fee charging schools
‘Diabolical’: why Australia’s teacher shortages are among the worst in the world – and who is suffering most
Regional and disadvantaged schools are bearing the brunt of the crisis, with almost two-thirds of teachers reporting high levels of stress

Someone said that because Israel is unable to rehabilitate their image, they're putting all their money into increasing islamophobia. I think that's spot on.
Huh? I've always just called them Battleships.

A reminder that if you want to have a day off dress up like nob, stick feathers into your hair and get smashed on cheap shitty champagne in plastic cups and lose money betting on short people with whips, you can do that any day of the week without torturing and killing horses.

I couldn’t think of a more draconian policy if I tried. We like to think Trump is terrible but here we are supposed Centrist govt opening the door for authoritarianism.

Burke is also the Arts Minister and it’s mind blowing to see the arts sector pander to him.

It's interesting that wise conservative business guys implicitly understand "return on investment" except when it comes to this. It's better for YOU if your neighbor gets enough to eat so he can become your community's mechanic, accountant, dentist--whatever!--instead of lying dead in a ditch
The welfare state is about dignity, equality, and making people not poor, but as @itsafronomics.bsky.social says/cites here, it’s often also an investment that more than pays for itself
Why should you 🫵🏿 care about SNAP? SNAP recipients saw:

- Improved life expectancy
- Lower chance of incarceration
- Lowers chance of poverty
- Lived in better neighborhoods
- Higher human capital

SNAP keeps our neighbors fed, communities safer, and kids educated. Also people are HUNGRY. DUH!

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

Folks looking for evidence of SNAP recipients as welfare queens have no shortage of AI generated schlock to use as justification.

Guaranteed this guy has never paid one cent of his legally mandated child support.
Careful not to turn too far, though. Mine fully unscrewed and fell clean off.

“We are told that AI is inevitable, that we must adapt or be left behind. But universities are not tech companies. Our role is to foster critical thinking, not to follow industry trends uncritically.”
