Being a British parent is so weird bc you're actually worried about paying the sky high rent/mortgage & getting GP appointments but the entire press keeps telling you you're worried there's a trans person or immigrant nearby & the vat on Eton means there'll only be two skiing holidays this year

this other one from that "The Cost of Living" series. really complicated image. those guys back there. full three dimensional space with two apertures playing against each other. that rainbow sweater, the flowers, forlorn young parents and look out here comes a baby head

the idea that ppl fake disability bcos they get treated nicely by society is the sort of absolute bullshit only our absurdly out of touch columnist class could believe.

we need press reform. im tired of this country being run by the spectator garden party set.

I urge you to note here how much of British politics and media - and indeed British culture in general - is just bullying, and little more. It’s a daily exercise in enforcing the social hierarchy by reminding everyone who they can and cannot kick. That’s why our most famous sitcoms are like that.

Keir Starmer - "I’ve always wanted a Labour government but I’ve never worried about the future of our country under a Tory government."

The words of a man so insulated from the harm done by the Tories he felt no compulsion not to continue the harm not being done to him and his.

Again, notice how much worse this is than Trump’s America. There is meaningful resistance to this bullshit across the Atlantic. There is no elite resistance to it at all here, because these people have driven themselves insane and stomped all over anyone who objected to their horrific behaviour.

Hey can someone in the media explain to me why the centre-left wing party they advocated for, which won the last election in a landslide, is governing to the right of previous rightwing party government?

Ian Austin was a Labour MP who spent the years 2015-19 furiously campaigning against his own party's leader because of alleged concerns about antisemitism. When his party lost the election, Boris Johnson made him a Lord. These are all plain facts and it's up to you what you do with them.
Absolutely insane here, like lecturing people for not recognising the decency and liberalism of Milosevic’s Serbia, yet somehow much, much worse, dumber and more insulting. You cannot big up a record of inclusion if you are destroying your subject underclass of people who have no rights.

At some point we might realise this isn’t just about race, but about the biggest social problem we face: the belief that only rich people are worth anything, that the world must bend to their needs and wants and that the richer you are, the more important and valuable you are to the species
Saw this being shared, didn’t look closely and assumed it was about the US… but no, it’s the U.K.
This is so disgusting.

You might think that the "Labour" Party would consider labour itself to be a contribution to society, alas no, only "having lots of money" is a real contribution.

Perhaps they need to change their name to the Capital Party?

Apart from the strangeness of the language - "non-biological people" sounds like a woke term for AIs in Black Mirror - this makes clear that Baroness Falkner came into her job at the EHRC believing that the net amount of human rights in the UK was too high, and that her job was to lower that amount.
Kishwer Falkner in The Times talking about the rights of "biological people". As compared to trans people, who are, of course, non-biological.

The UK press are debating if a man who wants to deport all black people might have made racist remarks as a child, the US press are debating if shooting civilians a second time is bad.

Honestly I need the guy who wrote Ordinary Men to explain why we don't have a 3rd Reich every other decade

This government loves to redo an independent reivew that was too independent and didn't produce the result they wanted
An independent taskforce *just* did a huge review of ADHD in England, and the conclusion was that it's "under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated."

This is a good point. I’d also add that a newsroom today is an anti intellectual culture for the most part. The scoop matters more than anything, but there’s also an outright refusal to think about the systems that enable this kind of behaviour, and a rejection of reflection or remorse
column maybe coming on this but I don't hugely care about what 61-year-old Farage got up to at school? and I think that Fleet Street finally gunning for him is symptomatic of a culture where the gotcha/scoop factor matters so much that hidden past actions are seen as worse than current, public ones

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.
