If every Muslim voter in Dearborn voted for Harris, she still would have lost Michigan.

If she had won Michigan, she STILL WOULD HAVE LOST THE ELECTION.

If you want to blame voters for current conditions, feel free to blame the actual demographic responsible for Trump and that is WHITE PEOPLE.

This is not the first time that the PML-N govt has demanded political opponents to be extradited back to PK, but it's also extremely disturbing and an example of how much worse things are getting under the authoritarian govt in PK (esp. that the US has stopped pretended to care about rights there).

Scam Altman doesn’t use ChatGPT to raise his kid. He uses his immense wealth to export that work to caregivers. He is advertising his company’s product. Don’t feel bad for Altman, feel bad for the overworked and exhausted parents using ChatGPT because they can’t afford what he can.

One of the few recent parallels for understanding the challenges awaiting Mamdani when he takes office is the Spanish left’s experience after 2015 of governing 2 of Europe’s largest cities.

I take a look at the lessons left administrations in Barcelona and Madrid offer

Spain’s Left Municipal Governance Lessons for Zohran Mamdani
Balancing the smooth running of local government with a bold reform agenda, as Zohran Mamdani will have to do in New York, isn’t easy. Spain’s recent experiments with left local governance offer some ...

One of the things that some people tend to forget about the film adaptation of Children of Men is that that when it came out, the UK was under Labour. Also, Alfonso Cuarón said that when it came to writing the script, he and his team just looked at 2005 and extrapolated from there.

Michelle Goldberg?

Is one of the signatories of the Harper’s Letter ( she’s never retracted)

She also wrote the piece in 2014 that portrayed Black women as worse than the right and called us Toxic for @thenation.com
Also never retracted

And, coming out of the brief postwar period when poor people had opportunites almost equal to middleclass people, I never thought we would democratically elect ourselves back into feudalist oligarchy while destroying the means by which poor kids historically bettered themselves - art, music, etc

I read a lot of science fiction growing up, thought about a lot of ways the human race would push itself into self-extinction, but I don't think I ever came across the notion that we would invent a machine that would do all the fun, imaginative parts of life, leaving us to slowly die of boredom.

You'd never have guessed it from looking at the papers, but Peggie mostly lost her case. Her only 'victory' was the court acknowledged the trust had screwed up some of the HR paperwork. Anything substantive relating to her supposed 'discrimination' and complaints about Dr Beth Upton was dismissed

Folks might not know a lot of people are getting *very* upset that the materials they request are not available in the libraries/archives they're requesting from.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.

We’ve reached a point where public intellectuals need to screenshot the exact second proving how Germany’s liberal Feuilletons twist their words and thoughts - bcs apparently no one in those newsrooms seems remotely bothered to get it right. Truly absurd.
I say that I deplore the ebbing of Holocaust memory here www.youtube.com/live/8YPsC8L.... Yet this newspaper article suggests that I welcome it. @Zeit.de needs to correct the record.

An important point to come out of the Sandie Peggie case is that 'gender critical' employees can't take matters into their own hands and confront trans employees. If they do that it is likely to be harassment/ bullying/ a hate incident.

This book is everything. This is the first book I committed to reading when I decided to pick back up a reading habit in recovery from hearing voices. It’s one of the crucial slave narratives.
Author's note for poem ☝🏾

It is written about Harriet Jacobs's 1861 "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl", where she writes of her confinement:

"I lived in that little dismal hole… for nearly 7 years. My body still suffers from the effects of that long imprisonment, to say nothing of my soul."

The UK’s problems won’t be solved until the news media in its current form is dismantled
Radio 4 and BBC and Channel 4 News and all the papers completely skewing the Peggie story so your average person will have no idea what actually happened. Doesn’t this make you furious? Integrity in journalism is dead, not just in the US

The tribunal seemed very unimpressed by the fact that Peggie waited around to challenge Upton, and considered this an impermissible manifestation of her beliefs.

No good morning to almost all the UK media outlets (including the BBC and the Guardian) that really want to keep going to bat for a vile, racist and transphobic nurse, to the extent that they frame a decision where she lost everything save for one claim as a partial "victory".

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
