No good morning to almost all the UK media outlets (including the BBC and the Guardian) that really want to keep going to bat for a vile, racist and transphobic nurse, to the extent that they frame a decision where she lost everything save for one claim as a partial "victory".

Just saying, Sarkozy has been (mainstreaming) the far right for 20 years...

In fact, he is the reason why I did a PhD and got into academia (him and John Howard) so you can blame him for that too

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

I keep thinking of Beth Upton today, who won against an absolutely foul, racist bigot, and should be having the best day, but is still being monstered by our entire media, for the crime of merely existing as her authentic self and doing a job in the NHS that helps people, all day every day.
#C4News went above & beyond, reporting:

"a nurse has won a harassment claim against Dr Beth Upton."

No she didn't. NHS FIFE harassed her, not Upton.

This is almost defamatory, & they mentioned none of the dismissed parts or the implications for trans women in SS spaces. I complained to Ofcom.

Whether this is for the US or the UK, and as someone who *has* had shingles, more than once, and never wants that sort of open-nerve-like pain again? Get the vaccine.
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

This is about the US and universities et al, but it can also be applied to the UK, given the enthusiasm of the government and some university heads.
"Critical pedagogy is out; productivity hacks are in. What’s sold as innovation is really surrender. [...] The future of education has already arrived, as a liquidation sale of everything that once made it matter."

AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself

Yeah, MPs openly siding with Peggie, BBC giving interviews with her lawyer, etc - all basically taking her winning as assumed. This should be hugely embarrassing for them and prompt a rethink, but of course the one technical winning ground will give them an excuse not to.
If the headlines spinning this as a win for Peggie seem pre-written, I guarantee it's because they were, however carefully couched they might seem after some hasty editing.
Sandie Peggie's claims against Upton dismissed & most of her claims against NHS Fife are dismissed. Questions remain for NHS Fife over the process they pursued, which led to Peggie's harassment claim being partially upheld.

The tribunal ruled Upton's use of female changing facilities not unlawful.

I think this just shows how far the fix is in on this stuff. What I would hope is that some of the remaining sensibles take note of how appalling it is and distance themselves from those of their colleagues engaging in this level of journalistic malpractice.

Being a British parent is so weird bc you're actually worried about paying the sky high rent/mortgage & getting GP appointments but the entire press keeps telling you you're worried there's a trans person or immigrant nearby & the vat on Eton means there'll only be two skiing holidays this year

What an incredibly cowardly answer...

The EU is being threatened by the wealthiest man on earth who has made far/extreme right views very clear and yet it still pretends its response cannot be "ideological", even when the most basic democratic principles are at stake

our bluesky safety manager replied with this to a woman venting after ICE kidnapped her husband, and then banned her.

How do we trust this person to have the empathy needed to be in charge of safety on this website? what the fuck?

if we spam the feedback, it might get somewhere

Bluesky’s head of trust & safety responding with a sarcastic image macro to a woman upset her husband was kidnapped by ICE is embarrassingly unprofessional & cruel behavior.

that account was then banned by Bluesky Trust & Safety. horrendously poor community management. what purpose does this serve?

People that crow about seeing or "knowing" someone falsely claim benefits for being sick, injured, unable to work, need to honestly fuck off and should stick to wanking to Daily Mail, Telegraph, Sun articles and their Little Britain boxed set.

Not being snarky, but my oldest nephew - who is 13 - was really chuffed when I got him physical cds, and his parents got him a cd player. I help him burn mp3s on to cd-rs and he doesn’t listen to Spotify as much, if at all now.

Read this whole article. It would take Olympic-level twisting to deny any of it - and the fact this isn’t front page news across the board absolutely reinforces the point.

It says a lot that This lady was cited in the manifesto of Anders Breivik and she is still invited to be on TV over 15 years later
Everyone involved knows Mel is a virulently racist fascist lunatic with horrendous views on the use of massive, murderous violence against civilians. But there she still is on Sky News, because her crackpottery is well within acceptable opinion, for our political/media class.

A worldview that divides people into givers and takes will prevent people from supporting redistribution, inclusion, sustainability and other progressive values. It will prevent people from voting Labour in elections. Labour is shaping public opinion against progressive politics.
This is so disgusting.

All of this is fascism. And not early stage either. This is the embedding of the Right Wing Daily Mail press consensus as the absolutely unshakable common sense of the UK state. Made possible because the "left wing" party has abdicated any kind of moral position on it.
