The rise of people like Lander and Walz, whose ideologies don't exactly match mine but have the exact right combination of "love thy neighbor" and "fuck you, asshole" attitudes, is massive positive for people who care about left of center politics

Honestly, there is something deeply ironic of a nation that views itself as a successor to the tradition of Rome, and has rendered its Senate irrelevant and is ruled by a mad Emperor who has chosen to go to war with a nation that views itself as a successor to Ancient Persia.

the belief that it’s inevitable that as the youth gets older, the more left the country will swing needs to be thrown out. the kids will not “save us” if the kids aren’t welcome in the party that is supposedly on their side! the party needs to completely embrace the populist left
people love to talk about dem messaging problems and those do exist but the core issues are still substantive. what even are they trying to message? i follow politics to an unhealthy degree and beyond “egg prices!” i don’t know what the party wants to do with power.

the "everyone is beautiful and no one is horny" Marvel model is a blight on cinema
it seems wild that Hollywood spent the last 15 years fully forgetting "sex sells", its core tenet for the first hundred or so years of its history

I really hope at some point the rightwing victimhood thing rings hollow because we’re at the point now where they have the Supreme Court, 99.9% of billionaires, the house, the senate, the presidency, and they’re going “you know who is oppressing us now? The deaf”

It's time to step the FUCK up if you wanna be an ally.

ASL interpretation is being targeted by right wing cry baby douchebags.

Shut this shit down when you see it. SPEAK UP. This barrage of ASL hate is heavier than usual.

People think SF has a higher homicide rate than OKC despite the opposite being true because a random mugging in the tenderloin will get national figures talking about how “California voted for this”, while merely pointing out the impacts of policies Trump will implement gets you scolded like this.
New from me: I wrote a short thing about how looking forward to Trump voters feeling the consequences of their choices still feels a little too close to rooting for the leopards
Opinion | Why it's hard to find comfort in Trump voters' likely suffering
There's little comfort to be had in knowing the hammer of the president-elect's worst policies will also fall on some of his supporters.

Not immigrants. Not minorities. Not people who follow a different religion.

Billionnaires. Noone needs a billion to live. Billionnaires could easily give you the money you lack and not notice the loss. They do not. They never will.

like i have been saying, a lot of americans do not treat politics as “real” — they approach it with an ironic distance that allows them to treat clear threats and statements of intent as mere rhetoric. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/15/u...

It's terrible to fear for your life. Isn't it? Let's make a list of all those who live with that fear. Children in schools. Black people. Trans people. Gay people. Women. Immigrants. So many living in fear for so long. One CEO gets killed because of who he is and it's suddenly a national crisis.

Chris Evans has been cast in ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’

It is currently unknown who he will be playing.

sorry, but gerrymandering rules. Democrats should take money out of police budgets they love to jack up, break from the real estate industry, build apartments all over their states, and incentivize people from red states to live in their blue ones. they’d have a forever majority. they choose not to.
Republicans have a majority of just 3 seats in the next Congress.

They got there with a national Republican gerrymandering advantage of 16 seats. See more from @davedaley.bsky.social in Salon where I’ve got the receipts.

How Republicans held the House: It's the gerrymander, stupid
Sure, both sides do it — but Republicans have ruthlessly redrawn the maps to bake in a nearly unbeatable advantage
