Would of course be higher had TOD actually occurred over the past 60 years

Basically cars are good for moving between town and country, for small groups of ~1-5 people. They are a less efficient replacement good for commuter train/bus service in cases where there is insufficient demand to make commuter train or bus service viable.

I would define a short distance as moving about within the urban core of a metropolitan area, a medium distance as moving between the rural and urban transects of one metropolitan/combined area, and a long distance as moving between metropolitan areas.
volty.bsky.social
what do we define as short/medium/long distance?
sprawlhater.bsky.social
The ideal use case of a car is to move a small amount of people over medium distance. That is a minoritarian transportation use case.
sprawlhater.bsky.social
Cars are fundamentally inefficient at moving large amounts of people over any distance (and especially short distances) and continuing to prioritize their use over more efficient means of transportation is climate denial

"Tailpipe emissions are not the only emissions!" I scream as greenwashers pummel me into wood paste
sprawlhater.bsky.social
There is no such thing as a zero-emission vehicle. Human beings aren't even zero-emission vehicles.

A record 29% — nearly a third! — of all new cars purchased in California during July, August, and September were zero-emission vehicles.

DC may be fine with selling out American innovation to China, but California will keep charging ahead toward cleaner air for our communities.

Happy birthday, my Dougie. I love you so very much.

Michael Clayton is a film that collected a good amount of hardware and was excellent at one particular thing on the diamond but didn't really cobble together the counting stats to reach the soaring heights of Cooperstown. A Hall of Very Good player. Michael Clayton is Keith Hernandez
sprawlhater.bsky.social
Master and Commander is another film I consider to be 4/5 stars, my "Very Good" designation for films that are not outer or inner ring hall of famers. Many of my personal favorites fall into that tier; because they are less artistically demanding, they are fun and can be rewatched more often.
sprawlhater.bsky.social
They made 3-5 Michael Claytons a year in the 70s because comic books used to be recognized as for children
sprawlhater.bsky.social
Michael Clayton is a thoroughly enjoyable 4/5 star workaday corporate thriller, eminently rewatchable, love it. But imo its meme status as a hall of fame movie on the internet stems from this kind of adult film for grownups just not being made anymore and everyone missing them.

The Coens have several films I would say are of similar caliber to A Serious Man and Inside Llewyn Davis but 1990 and 1991 e.g. are years with very obvious best films that are not Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink
sprawlhater.bsky.social
The time the Coens made the obviously best film of the year was 1996 with Fargo but I could also make the argument that A Serious Man and Inside Llewyn Davis were the best films of 2009 and 2013
sprawlhater.bsky.social
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (2007) is a perfect film and the Coens have made the best film of the year on 1-3 other occasions but the idea that THERE WILL BE BLOOD (2007) isn't the single greatest American film (and perhaps artistic work in any medium) of the 21st century seems absurd on its face to me
