I saw the (very beautiful all round) PETER HUJAR'S DAY last night. Rebecca Hall's accent was perfect: a Bronx Jew, edges softened by education. But Ben Whishaw's was astonishing: South Jersey meets New York, gay, refined, a peculiar mid-century precision/ambition that's all but lost.
I think you can notice how even more UK actors are slipping in their accent game (I can note many notable performers) while even quite recently you got people like Hugh Laurie or Kelly McDonald whose American accents are so perfect, that even directors are shocked to realize their provenance.

I think it's under-reported how much Peruvians and South Americans generally consider the Pope to be fully Peruvian. They don't forget where he comes from, they just don't care. That is how well he integrated himself. He has all Francis's power in that world, and North America too.
