finally caught up with Omega, definitely starting to pick up for me. I like that we're getting these 2-episode arcs with higher stakes, and finally our first alien in Zovaras. Interested in learning more about the lore there.

i dont know if any of this was an intentional queer allegory but it resonates that way to me, especially with how central it was in these last few episodes. would be far from the first time the superhero genre has used the secret identity trope to speak on the subject.
excited to see where it goes.

Later, Kosei gets a letter from his mom, telling him theres no rush to find what he wants for his life. Sorato encourages Kosei to reveal his secret to her, since he's already found it. Kosei scoffs at the idea, his desire to protect the earth from kaiju being impossible to explain to her.

episode 14 does a good job presenting some of the aftermath of the heroes' coming-out. Ayu's boss visits and disagrees with the idea that Omega has good intentions, without realizing that she's sitting across from him. Ayu has the unenviable position of playing defense without outing her friends.

after watching Sorato and Kosei joyfully help Pigmon, Ayu feels reassured and chooses not to further question them on their heroic lifestyle. The tension eases but it doesnt entirely go away, either. acceptance and receonciliation will continue to be a process.

Sorato and Kosei spend half the episode looking back on their time together, trying to put together a justification for their lifestyle and secrecy so they can present it to Ayu. once Ayu arrives she struggles with how to tactfully broach the subject. it was a familiar tension to me.

episode 13 hits close to home as a coming-out experience. to keep saying you'll come out to that loved one eventually, imagining the ideal controlled scenario, only to be outed involuntarily in a moment of shock and confusion. but its far from a single moment, it's a process.

still Kosei has to keep their secret hidden even from close friends out of fear even though Sorato wants to "come out". this is a world where some people are accepting of Omega and some arent, and he pays attention to those statistics. despite his efforts he still gets caught by Ayumu.

Kosei is struggling with what he wants to be in life when he meets Sorato, and its Sorato's confidence in his own identity and desires as a hero that inspire Kosei to be open to that same desire, and find joy in it despite the danger. they learn its a shared fight, neither can tough it out alone.

also something ive joked about, but im getting a genuinely queer reading here, being a hero as an allegory for being gay.
You have 2 male protags living together, hiding a secret that if revealed can lead to persecution by the public. Kosei even has to lie that Sorato's his cousin to deter suspicion
