I've been reading about Nazi Germany's preoccupation with "health" and "organic food," so I figured now is a good time to write about the similarities between Nazi Germany's attitudes about health and MAHA's.
MAHA and Nazi Germany
When people talk about the Make America Health Again movement (MAHA), I see two mistakes they make. The first is assuming that if someone claims to have a mission to improve our country’s health, t…

While hundreds of thousands of furloughed workers are going without pay, food stamps, formally known as SNAP, are set to run out on Saturday.

Normally, the federal government would use contingency money to keep SNAP going, but the Trump administration said it had no intention of doing so.
The shutdown is pushing federal workers to food banks—just as SNAP is set to expire

Lots of lovely folks want to cook for neighbors, fill community fridges during SNAP shutdown but are intimidated. A mutual aid group in Flatbush, Brooklyn has been feeding 80+ people every single week for a year and a half or so now. Nobody is born knowing how to cook for 80, so here's our guide!
Anyway, nobody needs to work to have value or deserve housing, food, healthcare etc no matter what people brainwashed by capitalism say !!
And of course I know this is because of MISOGYNY, because they believe a woman's purpose in life should be to find a husband and raise children that she stays home with

(And also some families with SAHMs need food stamps, so conservatives judge those families even if they have trad values)
Conservatives are SO obsessed with saying people who don't work shouldn't receive "handouts" but if we said stay-at-home moms shouldn't be able to eat, they would (rightfully!!) be upset.

It's just interesting to me who is excluded from their rhetoric about how adults need to "work" to "earn" food

BREAKING: Six people, including congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh, have been indicted on charges of "Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees" and "Conspiracy to impede or injure officer," in connection w ICE protests at the Broadview ICE facility outside Chicago.
Adults who receive SNAP benefits aren't any more responsible for a violent system that fails them than children are.
Well-intentioned people know that many don't care about adults who receive SNAP benefits because they think they are at fault and "deserve" to go hungry.

But we can and should emphasize that nobody should starve, not just children.
Unfortunately it feels like people are emphasizing that children will starve (which is true and terrifying) because children are thought of as completely "innocent," while adults are seen as more responsible for their circumstances.

Naming a problem as “craziness” tends to signal the abandonment of any societal commitment to asking how we might ensure better ways of doing things... locking in the belief that if some people are more vulnerable, it’s not because regulatory policies let them down—it’s because they’re “weak links.”
“Ironically, while naming AI psychosis might seem like a step toward addressing an emerging, unmet public health need, this term easily becomes a distraction from the underlying problem it exposes — by pathologizing users instead of penalizing companies.”

“Relying on chatbots isn’t fringe — it’s the predictable result of care made scarce, stigmatized, and costly. Recognizing that doesn’t mean uncritically embracing chatbot care, but it’s past time to name what’s happening: Privately owned chatbots are functioning as public health resources.”
‘AI psychosis’ discussions ignore a bigger problem with chatbots
Don’t frame chatbot failures as human “insanity.”

It’s crunch time for the more than 75,000 New Hampshire residents who rely on SNAP benefits to put food on the table, as the federal shutdown is likely to continue into November and the government refuses to release a reserve fund that would help keep benefits going for two or three weeks.

Feeling emotional whiplash between the sheer evil of the state preparing to starve 42 million human beings and the incredible variety of ways that communities around the country are mobilizing to feed their neighbors.
I really saw a liberal talking about SNAP benefits and the need for restrictions on processed food. It isn't even just conservatives.

Please stop falling for conservative MAHA talking points. People are going to starve.
This isn't even getting into all the factors that influence people's dietary choices like how expensive food is, availability, lack of housing, health issues.

Other people's dietary choices aren't our business!!
"There should be restrictions for SNAP benefits when it comes to processed/sugary food" is what happens when classism is combined with healthism. People deserve access to food even if you don't like their dietary choices.

I have had POTS my whole life but had never heard of it until a couple of years ago. Got an official diagnosis this year. Told my cardiologist about all the fainting I’ve done in my life and how many times I blacked out playing sports. She said she’d heard the same story so many times.
I have POTS. I likely had it for at least a decade before my diagnosis. Patients are frequently gaslit. I was repeatedly told my symptoms were due to stress, anxiety or depression. Even with the increase in awareness since 2020, I am always hearing about people with POTS being gaslit by doctors
It’s POTS awareness day—a blood flow problem common after Covid.

POTS can be subtle—I often wonder how many people who feel rundown, anxious or distracted have this treatable condition.

Main criteria is heart rate going up >30bpm when going from laying down to standing—smthg you can check at home!
This is a lot like my experience! I had been fainting for over a decade before I was diagnosed. I'm glad you were able to get diagnosed! I wish POTS patients (and other patients) weren't forced to wait so long for answers.
