Doug Ford's conservative government is proposing the the biggest attack on Ontario renters and rental affordability in a generation.

Not only would landlords be able to evict tenants without cause, but rent control in units built before 2018 would effectively be over. (See last row in the image.)

Text of table from newly proposed legislation. The heading says "Fighting Delays at the Landlord and Tenant Board." The bottom right box says the "Future State" of "Lease Agreement Expiry" would be "The government would consult on alternative option on lease agreement expiry that could allow landlords to control who occupies their units and for how long, allowing them to adjust tenancy agreements based on market conditions, personal needs, or business strategies. This would add flexibility for some landlords in the approach to leases, potentially unlocking additional rental unit stock."
