Dan Levy openly says that Schitt's Creek would not have survived anywhere except the CBC because it was weird and took a season or so to find its feet... Just for reference if you wanna know the ROI on this approach to supporting creative things.
Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

No idea how Canada's Supreme Court will handle the notwithstanding question before it. But at the very least, politicians should be legally required to stand in front of mics and declare, "I, [politician name], think it necessary to override the rights of [group]." And then take questions.

This argument that we need to adopt fascism-lite to prevent electing fascists is a big ahistorical lie, and it has a lot of currency in Canada too. This will not solve any problems fascists blame on refugees, while it concedes the idea that they're correct to blame them. This is how you get ICE.

It’s really fun to spend years working with residents and city staff to move important projects along and then have the provincial government just cancel everything due to toxic populism.
If u care about better cities for people in Ontario Canada, please pay attention to what Premier Ford is doing. Not only would his new bill block cities from building bike-lanes if they touch car lanes, he’s talking about imposing his own street standards & standardized official plans in EVERY city.
