Big news! My book, #RunLikeaGirl, is launching in Canada & US on September 23. It’s about having the courage to run your own race-even when it’s hard. Trying to live up to the expectations of others is no way to live or make a difference. Let’s do this!🏃‍♀️💪 🏃‍♀️💪 🏃‍♀️💪 🏃‍♀️💪

Really sad to see @catabreu.bsky.social & @simondonner.bsky.social quit Canada’s Net Zero Advisory Body. Cat and Simon are globally respected climate leaders. More than ever, Canadians need experts giving independent advice about how Canada can achieve its goal of net zero emissions.
Ignored since the federal election, an arms-length expert body set up to advise the federal government on the energy transition is collapsing.
The latest pipeline agreement between Canada and Alberta representing the final straw for two members. @woodsideful.bsky.social reports
Federal net-zero body falling apart in wake of Alberta-Ottawa deal
Two prominent members of the Net-Zero Advisory Body, including its chair, have resigned this week, citing a lack of influence over a government that’s increasingly pulling back on climate action.

So brutal. Danielle Smith & the oilsands’ goal is increasing production, pollution, and the cost Canadians pay for climate change - while delaying the energy transition. The opposite of winning the future.

So grateful to the MaRS Discovery District team and the Women in Cleantech Network for such a powerful morning 💚 Being in a room full of women who are building climate solutions was incredible. Thanks for the space to talk leadership, risk, failure & getting back up again.

The thing about online hate is that it goes offline & is dangerous. In my case, it would often start with clip of Conservative politician making a personal attack in Question Period, rage farming outlets would promote, bots & trolls pile on, algorithms amplify.
It needs to stop!
🇨🇦 Catherine McKenna joins us this week to chat about the state of hate online (esp. for women in politics) & her new book, Run Like a Girl 🏃‍♀️.

At #MyRunLikeAGirl book launch in Victoria last week, I had a conversation with @ianmauro.bsky.social. Ian asked me tough but thoughtful questions - and I did my best to answer them.

Have a listen and let me know what you think.

If you raise your hand & say you’re committed to net zero, you need to do the work: short-term targets, a credible transition plan, real emissions going down, money going from fossil fuels to clean, no new investment in fossil fuel infrastructure. See our UN Expert Group “Integrity Matters” report.

Whoa. It’s called “zoom” - quite a way to respond to the Coastal First Nations request for a meeting especially when he refused to meet them before the MOU that directly affects them was announced - while doing over 50 meetings with fossil fuel lobbyists.
HODGSON: It's called Zoom. I think that's what we're using.

COCHRANE: I understand. But I'm also not a Coastal First Nation Chief.

See CarbonTracker’s new report “Petro-Provinces at Risk”.

Energy transition puts at huge risk provincial revenues from oil & gas in 2030s:
- AB ⬇️ 85%
- BC ⬇️ 72%
- SK ⬇️ 78%

Oil & gas expansion is increasingly a “high-risk, low-reward strategy”.

Imagine the hole in Alberta’s budget when the price & demand for oil is in long-term decline in 2030s as a result of the energy transition and increased demand for clean energy. Not nostalgia for the past, it’s about winning the future. Just economics, folks.
Alberta faces $6.4-billion deficit as falling oil prices and trade troubles take toll
This year’s budget represents a massive multibillion-dollar swing from an $8.3-billion surplus last year

I worked with @stevenguilbeault.bsky.social starting when I was a new Minister working hard to tackle climate change & build an economy that positioned Canada to win the energy transition. He gets it. He has worked with integrity his entire career & will continue.
He is the best of politics. 🙏
