Total movie-nerd bait, I know, but I loved the bit in THE SECRET AGENT where the interview is taking place in a room above a movie theater where THE OMEN is showing, and realizing from a sudden burst of audience reaction what scene from that movie had likely just transpired.

If acting awards were for a year’s body of work, Josh O’Connor would be a runaway winner.

I named my fists Ashman and Menken, because they’re both a little scared, neither one prepared.
I named my fists Kander and Ebb because they go BAM BAM....and all that jazz
I named my fists Bacharach and David because they long to be close to you (and you’ll say a little prayer).

Today I learned that the Chinese title of ZOOTOPIA is “CRAZY ANIMAL CITY,” and for some reason that makes me smile.

Some bad news. The great film and culture writer Nathan Rabin was in a serious car accident. He is expected to recover, but he has a rough path ahead. Now is a great time to buy his new book (I just did, looks cool!) - a thorough investigation of movies about movies.

Charles Barkley, who has admitted to losing $25 million gambling, drops “guar-on-tee!” with every NBA pick he makes.
i think all the "betting experts" on tv should be legally required to show you their all time bet record and their all time earnings and losses

My take: He was very funny playing what turned out to be a character that was not himself. Once he couldn’t plausibly play that character any more, what was left turned out to be curdled and cruel.
Don't tell me that Louis CK was never funny.

Louis CK was absolutely funny before his controversy and it's remarkable that after being backed into a corner, he went all in on unfunny racist and transphobic jokes.

It's FASCINATING how he stopped being funny overnight.

I’m once again losing the tree-decorating battle to not have every square inch of branches occupied by some ornament.

Been doing a lot of "for your consideration" catch-up over the past week, and I'd still contend that ZODIAC KILLER PROJECT is the documentary of the year.

The new film “Hamnet” offers up a vision of William Shakespeare as “Marlon Brando in Elizabethan drag,” writes Drew Lichtenberg. While this character may appeal to some, it “played to me like mumblecore Shakespeare, conceived for the TikTok generation.”
Opinion | ‘Hamnet’ Reimagines Shakespeare for the TikTok Generation
Our love of his plays have led to a centuries-long fascination with the writer. So why does each new fictional iteration get his life so wrong?

Crazy Stanford basketball buzzer-beater after St. Louis does the thing you’re supposed to do when leading by 3 with under 5 seconds left: Foul the other team so they can’t get off a 3-pointer. Except you have to rebound the missed free throw. youtu.be/L7oJdq3AOQw

It is kind of impressive that the Trump administration news cycle is an endless loop of "you're doing a terrible thing"/"how dare you accuse us of doing that terrible thing"/actual thing is even worse than that.

We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.
