Tangentially related, but I recently rewatched Disney's Lady and the Tramp and I was surprised by this throwaway gag during the zoo scene. As recently as 1955, evolution was such an uncontroversial topic that Disney felt comfortable making an explicit reference to it.

Back when I was young, the question was "will capitalism kill us through its relentless extraction of surplus value from nature-obliterating technology?" Turns out no, it's dumber than that, the capitalists actually want to build solar panels now but that's not ok because it's soy or something.

One of the dumbest ways to go extinct as a species really would be for our leaders to decide they have to mine coal and drill up oil not because we actually need them anymore but because they just refuse to accept that we don't.

Columbus was a tech bro.
My favorite aspect of the Columbus legend is him getting rejected by the Portuguese gets spun as them not recognizing the genius of his idea. No - he went into a roomful of expert navigators and made basic math mistakes, they thought he was a moron, and they wouldn't fund his idea on that basis.

You are a disgrace. You make me ashamed of being European.

May the souls of a hundred thousand dead Palestinians haunt you forever.

Not a single mention of the Palestinians and this is who Europe chooses to represent them. This world has gone to hell under leadership that is so corrupt it cannot acknowledge the humanity of an entire people.
The return of the Israeli hostages is a moment of pure joy for those families.

And a moment of relief for the entire world.

It means that a page can be turned. A new chapter can begin.

Killing doesn't stop under Russian occupation
⚡️A new investigation by Їne Back Їversen exposes Russia’s expanding mass graves in occupied Mariupol.

The growing burial sites reveal thousands of civilians killed as the city was turned to rubble.

This is what I mean when I say, when it comes to political positions, most ppl just run on vibes. 100% feelings-before-facts. Japan is screaming towards a population crash at 1,000 MPH, it's not reversible at this point. But you have political parties agitating to return to hermit kingdom status.
Japan’s far right is on the rise, alarming foreign workers. Nowhere is that anxiety more apparent than in the city of Toyota, where immigrants power the economy while facing political backlash.

Personally I don't eat veggie burgers or veggie steaks but still find this ridiculous. Nobody confuses them and it's 100% about livestock farmers worrying about any competition.
Championed by green advocates as much as mindful eaters, the days of plant-based "steaks" and "veggie burgers" may be numbered under plans up for a vote in the European Parliament tomorrow.

Chat Control will leave European enterprises naked. It will mean no secrecy at all in internal or external communication, IP. Palantir and thus US will be able to tap into everything, and soon China will too, as it get access through the backdoor. I don’t get why EU industry is silent on this one.
This desperately needs to be shot down. "Chat Control, first introduced in 2022, would require service providers, including end-to-end encrypted platforms like Signal, to scan all platform communications and files to screen for “abusive material” before a message is sent."
