Sweary Xennial nerd. Loves dogs and gaming. Tabletop and SF&F. Stationery magpie. Archer. Sometimes moany. Has a chronic illness. Marooned in a future I have no wish to participate in.

"Of course they mix everything up. Look at what they have to work with, huh? Basic Set, Dungeon Fantasy, and hundreds of sourcebooks and licenses. GURPS GMs take what they want and leave the rest. Just like your salad bar."

It's here! 🐉

From the pages of DRAGON Magazine in 1991: an ad for the new 'black box' version of the Basic Rules - the first edition of D&D I ever called my own. So, this particular red dragon image is quite nostalgic to those early days of getting into the hobby.

My Golden Retriever’s excitement this morning at realising the weather is shite is a joy to behold. Bum wiggling, paw tapping impatience to walk in the cold, damp and high wind.

I got excited at the news of a new Stargate show, but then I remembered what timeline we’re in. Not to be a relentlessly moany old arsehole, but I’ve lost all faith in new shows. It’ll either be crap second screen dross, or it’ll be awesome and cancelled after a single short season.

Eat out to Help Out was killing people, but they “kept it out of the news”.

I bet the replies to this over on that digital shithole are Totally Normal.
If the UK government was really serious about online safety they would have banned Twitter/X instead of implementing the Online Safety Act. That would've removed a major source of extremist hate but preserved small website communities and forums that offer safe aid and advice.

Buying books this Christmas? I am and I'm not using Amazon. Billionaire Bezos can get in the bin.

Use your local bookshop or @bookshop.org

Here's some solid financial advice; learn from the mistakes of all these AI companies. Never invest in a solution looking for a problem.

Washed and cleaned the car, replaced a knackered fuse, got myself an apple tree, stopped my elderly mother from being telephone scammed, and started reading through my copy of GURPS ConX. A fulfilling day so far.

Then I twisted my knee, broke a glass, and lost the tin opener.

every morning Keir Starmer calls an aide into his room at 6.30am to film him doing bicep curls

"leak this to the Daily Mail" he says between grunts. "say that friends of Keir are concerned about how strong he is right now"

the aide nods, holding up the phone. it's not filming. it's never filming.

My Bond, cold-ish take, is I just don't want Amazon Bond. Just don't want it. Amazon has never shown the care needed to steward something as well loved as Bond. Yes they'll employ good people, but they'll fuck it, because they're run by execs who thought up putting Amazon brand Vodka on subscription

This problem with the Bond franchise seems to stem from the relatively recent need for every single thing to be explained and reasoned. I really believe this is a detriment to modern entertainment.

Indulging myself in the glamourous world of replacement tumble dryer shopping. It’s quite depressing how many of the offerings boast “Wi-Fi enabled” or “smart appliance.”

Lol. I barely trust it not to shrink my t-shirts, why the fuck would I want it connected to the internet?

Trying to curate my #TTRPG shelves by having less games but more complete collections. Filling the gaps with reasonably priced eBay stuff and print on demands.

I just got a POD in which the text disappears into the sloppily glued spine. Grrrr.

TIL Dutch’s real name is Alan.
[Thread] All the times Arnold Schwarzenegger almost reprised his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer (Predator, 1987) in another Predator movie, but oops, he didn't.

You could make a movie just about that.
