It is understood that some Labour MPs as well as figures in the wider policy sector believe the current impasse is a distraction from other pressing issues, including the rise of the far right and its impact on the communities served by the EHRC. They have been encouraging applications for the commissioner roles from those they feel take a more nuanced approach to trans inclusion. One Labour backbencher said: “As these posts are coming up, it’s important to have that broad range of experience and expertise on the board, and within those discussions we’ve been saying please do encourage people from the trans community to consider it, or have you thought of applying? “That broad range was essential from when EHRC was first set up but may have been narrowed with more political appointments under the Conservatives. “When a group of us met some of the current board members and the current chair, we felt very strongly that an understanding of the impact of the supreme court ruling on the trans community wasn’t there.” Another Labour backbencher said they hoped more people would apply: “We need commissioners with real world experience of the issues they grapple with.” Stonewall said the arrival of the new chair and commissioners was an opportunity “to rebuild an EHRC that re-establishes fairness, balance, and respect at its core”. CEO Simon Blake said: “We are living in a time of uncertainty and turbulence for many; this is an opportunity to review the strategic approach of our National Human Rights Institute so everyone – including trans people – can benefit from the rights and freedoms the EHRC is constituted to protect and defend.”

SEEN needs to spell out how astonishingly improper this is. A Gender Critical activist ‘journalist’ openly admits he was “invited to address the judge” in a criminal trial, even though he says himself he “doesn’t technically have standing”. This should NEVER happen in court.

The UK again shows they've lost touch with decency and humanity when it comes to trans women as a judge declared Graham Linehan not guilty of harrassment after he harrassed a trans minor and broke her phone.

Apparently the victim didn't seem distressed enough.

Services, public functions and associations Statutory Code of Practice This code creates legal risk and should be withdrawn seXmatters Sex Matters has been calling for the government to deal with misunderstanding and misrepresentation of the Equality Act since 2020. Much of the problem goes back to bad guidance published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in 2011. In 2021, 7,893 people joined us in signing a letter to the Committee on Standards in Public Life calling for a public inquiry into the adoption of "Stonewall Law" by public institutions. On 3rd June 2021 the story got into the news. Stonewall defended its approach, saying that it was: "confident in our advice on the Equality Act which is based on the Equality and Human Rights Commission's Equality Act Code of Practice." Now, finally, following the Supreme Court judgment in the For Women Scotland case, the EHRC has admitted that its code of practice for service providers is wrong in law, and has urged the Minister for Women and Equalities to revoke it before it does any more damage. We wrote to Baroness Falkner, chair of the EHRC, to ask why its outdated and legally wrong code had not been withdrawn, following her 16th October letter to the minister. Baroness Falkner replied to us saying that the minister has refused to act: "I can confirm that we received a response from the Minister for Women and Equalities on 11 November. This states that it is not her intention to revoke the 2011 Code before the new Code of Practice is published. It feels worth mentioning that Graham Linehan’s harassment literally continued in the courtroom, as he repeatedly misgendered Sophia, and referred to her as “Tarquin”, a fictional deadname he made up for her as part of his harassment campaign. The judge was complicit in this harassment happening.
