If my spouse were a cruise person or a luxury fiend or an itinerary-follower, we wouldn't be compatible. My travel style is to get into the kinds of adventures you only encounter when you dick around and look at stuff and pop down into little side streets and talk to people.

I’m a big evangelist for the Criterion Channel - cheaper than most streamers and tons of great movies. They added an exceptional crop of goodies today! Collections of movies by Howard Hawks, Werner Herzog, various Indigenous directors, Jafar Panahi, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and early Black directors

Between getting my figure skates, going on a vacation where nobody cried or threw a fit, revisiting my favorite childhood vacation spot, and getting Significant Memory Ice Cream, I guess my recent bullshit I'm on is essentially "healing the inner child."
There are few places I have more affection for than Leopold's Ice Cream in Savannah. The ice cream is every bit as good as I remember it at the old location I went to when I was 8. I remember a little girl came up to ask me what color I got - the first time I ever heard someone call a flavor that.

I’m tired of money. I’m tired of the chase to get it. I’m tired of the value on it. I’m tired of the classes it creates. I’m tired of the superiority it gives. I’m tired of the lack that holds people back. I’m tired of leveraging my time for money just to TRY to enjoy some of this life.

Day 1 update: skating on concrete is terrifying and it's going to take a lot of work before I'm even comfortable going forward at a normal speed.
With my new, real off-ice skates here, I'm excited to do two things. The first is obviously to learn to skate. But the second is perhaps more profound: I'm going to be bad at something in a public place in a way that inevitably calls attention to how out of shape I am, aka my biggest fear.

Today I'm taking the first real step towards pursuing a dream I've had for 35 years. My *actual* off-ice skates arrived (I had a very cheap pair of rollerblades before that didn't work well for this), so I'm taking them to the park for day 1 of learning to (in-line) figure skate.
