Been trying!

People just have no clue how bad our HC system has degraded until they desperately need it.

AB is radioactive toxic wasteland for good HC recruitment
So many view working in AB HC would be a CAREER KILLER...

Current AB Job Environment: "Come, endless political interferrance, quickly get blamed for all that is wrong, get fired, and never work in AB again!"

Correct.
Recall many were handpicked by this Premier and her office even.
“AHS is evil” ideology can only go so far…
No other province has seen this kind of draconian disruption.

It’s truly non-functional.

And forget about recruiting into our Province… it’s a joke

As one key example: we don't even have a Board to oversee that the govt policy get's operationalized. Basically govt says "do X", and then changes to "do Y", and then blames the hospital orgs for poor outcomes. And fires more HC leaders...

pfparks.bsky.social
A quick list of HC leaders the Premier has terminated (recall she personally said she'd ensure the firings occurred):
This isn't complete...
But keep in mind that many of these positions have not been filled! Many have un/poorly qualified acting leads (if filled at all)...

Fragmenting the system into MANY Hosp operators will only make workforce planning worse, but that's the Premier's plan... 100s of hospital owners competing WITHIN AB for the same staff! Make that make sense!

meanwhile bad outcomes will continue:

Hey AB... re Rural ED closures: the govt will try to pretend it is all "AHS's fault"... but Covenant Health has the same issues. But for some reason that Premier has a hate on ONLY for AHS...

Let’s have a frank conversation about Health in our community.

This is NOT about right or left wing politics… it’s about the right care at the right time.

Medicine Hat deserves a HC system that works for them.

Spread the word and let’s have an honest discussion!

Working in the ED over the weekend, but wanted to take a moment to say I'm thankful to live in Canada where we still strive to try to provide universal health care!

That we haven't abandoned it to a system where only the rich get optimal care

Sharing a poem thankful reflection

Obvious risk for pts, moral distress for EMS and nursing staff who are still onsite, and likely the beginning of the end for many of these communities. Very few people will tolerate zero access to ED and will move to a town with more stable health services

#cdnhealth systems are in distress.
Health workers are being overworked, overwhelmed and burning out.
Patients are suffering avoidable harm.
@mark-carney.bsky.social national commission won’t solve this ⤵️

We need a citizen driven mandate for changes. Fund a National Citizens Assembly please.

- EMS calls hospital staff for help - crew in significant distress because there is nowhere to take this patient
- Local nursing staff tries calling physicians in the community
- One provider is 25 minutes away
- Resuscitation terminated pre-hospital - "no receiving site"

Why do closures of EDs & surgical & obstetric units not provoke outcry in rural Alberta?
I used to train rural anesthesia docs who provided excellent service to their communities such as Edson, Ponoka, Westlock
Drumheller, Slave Lake etc. Not now.
Why does this not matter to rural Albertans?

It really isn't hyperbole to say that the Alberta government's choices are killing people. Timely treatment can be a life or death difference. If the nearest EDs are closed, or there's a 7+ hour wait time at an urban hospital because rural folks have to go there, it's the same. ⬇️ Access, ⬆️ fatality%

Read this 🧵 last night after dropping hubs off @ #YYC ER; struggling to breathe, in pain, like someone was sitting on his chest.

Diagnosis: pericarditis.

Total time @ hospital: 11 hours.

Tell me again @daniellesmithab.bsky.social how you’ll fix #AbHealth in 90 days.

This is terrifying and so wrong. I lived in some of these areas and worked in a dangerous enough industry where access to an ED was important. Took more than one coworker to one of these EDs due to workplace injuries.
pfparks.bsky.social
Think of the impact this would have on the pt's family, wondering if an open local ED could have made a difference?

We understand that we cannot have an ED in every town, but closures are regularly occurring in places like: Hinton, Edson, Lac La Biche, Oyen... and many more

Alberta used to have the best services in Canada. On health and education, arguably the two main roles for a provincial government, the UCP is failing Albertans.
