Emergency Physician. HC advocate. Got to kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight.
If we don't have a real conversation and a REAL PLAN: Alberta is on a path where regardless of how many millions you have in the bank, there won't be a functioning hospital system to deal with your life-threatening conditions when they occur.

I do agree that in Canada we DO need to:
- have a real conversation as to what we should prioritize in HC,
- decide what our HC should look like for ALL
- stop destroying our fundamental principles of fairness and equity and giving public HC a death by a thousand cuts

- pretending a publicly funded safety net for all exists, when govt continues to under support and staff it, and all those private pay pathways can simply dump into the public system when the going gets tough

- continue the false dichotomy of Public system has been neglected and degraded so much that the ONLY answer is more inequitable care

But here's the thing...

the answer is NOT:
- more Two-Tier medicine
- open up the wild wild west and let the rich get even more access while the poor die in ever growing public queues

- pay for counselling or mental health therapy, but will pay for long hospital psychiatric admissions...
- dental? fahgetaboutit
- reasonably support home care and LTC - get ready for 8000/month out of pocket costs
- and so on, and so on...

- pay for puffers for bad asthmatics, which could be a $200/month and the difference between regular meals for some Canadians, but yet we will spend THOUSANDS of dollars on their sick care when they need the ED or the hospital.

Because we already DON'T:
- pay for someone's diabetes medicine but rather spend THOUSANDS of dollars on hospital care when they get really sick from their poorly controlled diabetes.

My oncologist told me he works at least 12 hour days five days a week, but that it’s just part of the job. I know they get paid well, but in addition to this he’s sometimes on call on the weekends too. It’s a lot of work. He seems like Superman or something, but that would burn a lot of people out.

Here’s a glimpse into the UCP government’s Rural Health Action Plan. Covenant Health (a Catholic health care provider) is partnering with Red Deer Polytechnic with a province wide focus. How many more hospitals will Covenant be operating?

Ya got name there… that one won’t…. But govt intends to make that one better at the expense of all the others on right side of this chart…

The Premier is trying to hoodwink you Alberta!

Those of us on the frontlines everyday really do NOT want to see the suffering and deaths we are already seeing get worse.

Comparing us to European nations is NOT apples to apples... and it's a smokescreen.

European countries - that govt and consultants are fond of comparing us to - have far more doctors per capita! And didn't have an anesthesiologist shortage!

They also didn't have all their life saving surgical metrics getting worse and worse when they explored Dual Pay!

Check out the things that will kill you surgery trends for AB...
These aren't worsening because we don't have enough surgeons... it's because we don't have enough anesthesiologists and nurses in our hospitals already...

And now we’re supposed to trust them on PRIVATIZING: Lab (again), DI, Screening, Surgeries in CSFs, and now any ole doc that wants to extra bill in their spare time?
On what planet does this govt have any credibility on HC Alberta?
When is enough enough?
