Childhood lessons from my mother, a public educator, that continue to guide me today: β€œalways consider the source” and β€œyou are the company you keep”. A Canadian who lives in Alberta on Treaty Land.

Brain is clearly addled. A little too much time in the hot desert sun? Showing lingering effects of heat stroke? And someone is a little too smug and confident for skipping town after stripping teachers of their rights. Coward. No, no, no. You don’t get to come back with your head held high. Recall!
You hit on an important point of private (choose to move into a facility) versus designated (placed by AHS). Big cost difference. Link is for the subsidized rates plus all the other costs you mentioned and more (tenant insurance, phone, TV…)

UCP have stated their priority is to move ALC folks out of the hospitals to deal with overcapacity issues. How? What is the plan? Where are the spaces? An aging population should be no surprise and planning should have started years ago. Our society and government have failed the older generation.
This is a tragically common story. Older people in community wait for placement behind those in hospitals. There are few placements for couples, this waitlist even longer. They are involuntarily separated. There is no longer choice, first bed available which could be anywhere in a zone.
Please god let him withdrawal! Just crawl into a hole and stay there already.
We still have the ace investigative reporter @carrietait.bsky.social! Keep kicking at the darkness.
It is honestly worth listening to the whole committee proceedings. So much to digest.

AG Wylie also laid out the scope and cost of auditing a dismantled and restructured health care system.

NDP MLAs scored big points debating, but the game is rigged.

So then we’re left with the RCMP investigation? Hopefully they can finish before Smith replaces them all with her provincial police force.

Or is there someone willing to do the audits for free? I mean, Mr. Wylie did put it out into the Universe.

The corruption must be really bad. Realllly bad.
And of course the UCP - care of Minister Petrovich - avoided, deflected, and delayed.

Thank you for speaking up and for the vast majority of Albertans. You were outstanding.
I share your fear. I was ruminating on the same thing this morning. I am checking Election Alberta’s website daily to see if/when recall petitions are approved. The timeline for Nicolaides’ recall moved fairly quickly. I also fear people will tire of too many petitions. Requires a lot of volunteers.
Anyone know when and where she touches back down on Alberta soil? Maybe a nice β€œwelcome home” is in order. Line the streets and highways in protest as she drives on by. Something like when Trump went to Scotland.
Thank you for being clear on where the responsibility for this child’s life lies, which is the Minister for ACA. The UCP govt’s β€œrestructuring and refocusing” has stripped AHS of any authority to improve patient care or to provide any care at all. AHS will be a hospital service provider, that’s it.
There’s Tod the Optimist and Energizer Bunny.

And then there’s the rest of Canada:
Let it sink in that Ben is #4! Three kids are waiting ahead of Ben and how many more behind? No kid should ever have to wait for cancer treatment. Ever. Lagrange was willing to airlift babies elsewhere when NICU capacity was strained in 2024. Time for an all expenses paid trip to SickKids in TO.
The full extent of my Bluesky feeds right now. Keep the commentary coming!
From the release above:

β€œThese financial supports are not new funding. They are funds redirected from teacher salaries that were not paid during the strike.”

Money that could be redirected and reinvested into hiring more teachers and EAs right now!

β€œAs of Oct. 29, 222,444 Albertans have applied for payments, according to a provincial news release. More than 180,000 of those parents are receiving their money on Friday.”
Just when you think Smith and her gang have hit rock bottom in their cruelty. Nope. This has gone too far. TOO FAR!
