They invented a bicycle that's as convenient and useful as a car, yeah.

By me this week - the happiest thing I've got to report of late, with a glorious trip over the summer to Montreal

nothing but respect for my Columbus
The 1992 Columbus minivan, which I think is more of a maxivan and looks malformed, but it's Italian

THREAD. Did you know that at about 1/3 of all stranger homicides in the U.S. are perpetrated by police? But there's something hidden here that is important to understand in this authoritarian moment.
Someone please do this for bikes
This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Stick some cards into the spokes and attach floats to the chain stays to make it an amphibious vehicle 🙌

Spotted at the start of the HONK parade: SCUL put half an aluminum canoe on an old Urban Arrow!
I love my gravel homies. They get it, you just don't want to bike with cars behind you all the time. And it isn't necessary. Way more people will bike, way more of the time, if they feel safe - *from cars*.
What if we made the infrastructure good enough that "experience" wasn't required? What if we made the infrastructure robust enough so that cycling in Boston *is* incredibly safe?

This post is vehicular cycling nonsense.
Resilient people *would* be harder to dominate
Trent Reznor's Rolling Stone cover called and it wants its haircut back 😆
$2.5bn for a bridge for rich vacationers to use six months out of the year... But we can't afford NSRL that would give thousands of daily transit riders a one-seat ride through Boston.

Why do we hate us?

All my homeys got short arms and long torsos
Buried all the way down in the last sentence is the admission that the chat bot was pretty useless, and the time would be better spent talking to other humans
My main big takeaways were that I didn't have to do things that felt dangerous just because I saw other people on bikes doing those things, and that there's no harm in waiting, in fact talking your time solves a lot of problems
I read that basic advise off of a business card at a local bike shop, some fifteen years ago, it gave me my license to bike safe. All these things that were counter intuitive but worked.

I am kidding and not when I say everyone with a new ebike should read it. There's a harder way to learn.

I know this might be cringe but if you know any cops in your life, (family, friends, neighbors, or acquaintances) you should be talking to them about what’s going on now.

as we skirt ever closer to the precipice, ensuring domestic law enforcement sides with us over the fascists will be important

Nine years after it was first proposed, Providence was still trying to work out building a 4 line subway. Would have gone to the Red Bridge, North Burial Ground, Olneyville, and Trinity Square.

Imagine the city we would have now if there'd been a will to get it done 103 years ago.

In exchange, when we sell the company to a drone and cobalt magnate so I can dive in a pool of gold coins Scrooge McDuck-style, you will be spared my wrath and retribution.

I'm a Bosch loyalist for a reason. The iPhone of ebike systems.
E-moto is booming and the world isn't ready. Half the calls to the bike shop are people who need service on these beasts. There's money to be made but it's totally unregulated and no one wants the lability. Meanwhile parents buy them as toys for their 13 year old kids.

E-bikes are an absolute game-changer in terms of giving more people the option of going car-light or car-free, but adoption is threatened by the ongoing moral panic. As the article notes, the solution is not restrictions on e-bikes, but creating more infrastructure to support e-bike riders. 1/2
“The e-bike market is skyrocketing — and, according to some studies, outpacing electric cars…The question now is: Do officials double down on deadly car-centric urban design, or do they rethink cities to encourage people to ditch four wheels for two?”

E-bikes could cut carbon, congestion, and costs — if cities take them seriously
E-bike sales are booming, providing a clean form of transportation that also improves public health. Yet cities remain committed to cars.
