we do, in fact, owe each other things. one of those things is accountability for the results of our actions.

Rejecting accountability for your own actions is wrong because no one can reasonably* reject the principle that you have a responsibility to help people if you can.

*yes, this very much hangs on what “reasonably” means

Yeah, exactly why ICE/CBP and DHS need to be brought to a heel.
Gov. Landry: "I like to ask Democrats if they like their communities to be dangerous or safe. Do they want their children to be able to walk to school or do they want to worry if they send them on the sidewalks, that unfortunate violent things are going to happen to them?"

ICE's decision to just leave cars abandoned in the roads is one of those dystopian things that makes you recoil in shock when you encounter it.
A legal asylum-seeker who works at Chipotle and plays music at a church in Maine went missing. His pastor searched and searched, eventually finding his abandoned car with the keys on the floor.

ICE grabbed him. No criminal record. No explanation.

One OPD officer logged 5,242 total working hours, racking up $490,000 in overtime pay. If he worked more than half of the time in a calendar year, why can't the city tell us what he did?

You can tell Evangelical Christianity is a fucking scam because they’ll give a supervillain speech about how the left doesn’t respect the sacred traditions over a Star Wars movie but cheer on their nominal coreligionists getting kidnapped for lawfully existing while black.

and there's a reason those who brag about obstaining are generally antisocial miserable scolds. they hate doing things for others.
my increasingly curmudgeonly take is that we all, in fact, have responsibilities. politics isn't an arena for self-actualization. it's an arena for public service. this is as true of voters as it is of politicians.
Ps: a common refrain that you'll hear is that "you're saying the Dems can't be at fault, it's the voters, as if the voters owe something to politicians and not the other way around!"

Yes, actually, that's how the social contract of democracy works. Voters yet the government they work for. Or don't.

Do I blame "the Left" for Harris' defeat? No, there's lots of factors and frankly it was most of all anti-incumbency Malaise backlash, Gaza was imo just a particular subset's excuse.

But you can't really have it both ways, either you're an electorally impotent smol bean or you're a proud wrecker.

You know, leftists insisting that they did their bit in trying to elect Harris and it wasn't them would be more persuasive if a lot of the folks involved hadn't loudly gloated about their electoral power in the heady aftermath of her defeat, before they realized it would make everyone hate them.

I think we're living in a period of extreme social distrust of the government coming across the political spectrum and part of that is manifesting as displacing that social trust into appealing scams and schemes.
why is such a large percentage of activity in america outright scams
