A lot of people with huge follower counts have been following me lately, so I feel compelled to say this.

Hi. I'm not going to follow you back, especially if I don't recognize you. I doubt you're really here to watch me talk about packing up my books so I can move house, but you never know.

The neoliberal state has spent 50 years systematically dismantling state capacity, selling off the public sphere, taking away all the things that substitute for wages in society, like public space, healthcare, social care, even free time. And then it complains people don't feel well off.

Also the 2nd Amendment doesn't work when the people who've frothed at the mouth about it existing to protect against tyranny just roll over and lick the boots of the tyrants.
Turns out the 1st Amendment doesn't work when regime allied oligarchs purchase the media and censor unfavorable content willingly.

Acting CISA director failed a polygraph. Career staff are now under investigation.

Which more than anything just shows you how badly they wanted this outcome and how much they like the new status quo.
Bari Weiss was so bad at Her Whole Deal that she couldn’t even get herself fired from the New York Times properly, so she just petulantly quit and started a dumb blog and a fake college and that was enough to get some billionaires to hand her control of CBS News.

Everyone's been in a class or a meeting with a Bari Weiss, a delusional half-wit with three-dollar words in love with the sound of their own voice and determined to make everyone else listen to it too
That photograph of Weiss they use - the one with the hand gestures - makes her look just as she is: the person in the meeting who knows exactly what words will impress the boss, but otherwise has never had an original thought, and lacks even a trainee secretary's basic administrative skill.

Bari Weiss is an actual, unqualified diversity hire AND white supremacy hire at the same time
really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesn’t understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself

I love this story and it also supports something I think quietly to myself a lot, as much as people disparage acting and other art forms as easy, they could not deal with the vulnerability it takes. For artists, vulnerability is the job, and most people are deathly afraid of vulnerability.
Parisot (the Director) tells a story about how Tim Allen just started crying after a scene one day

"I don't like these feelings i'm having." Says Tim. "I'm going back to my trailor" and walks off.

There's silence for a second.

"Oh my god." Says Rickman. "I think Tim just experienced acting."
Galaxy Quest - a perfect movie, just a wonderful love letter to actors, sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and to fandom - really deserves a proper physical release with decent extras. Think Weaver's right that releasing a R-rated cut would be fun, too.
