I feel like I forget to talk about it but here's a reminder that I have a comic coming next year called Last Ship to Mars 🚀 that is not even a little concerned about Mars and is instead a love letter to the Earth and the huge importance of staying and doing the work. It's also gay. ✨

If you need to get presents for teenagers this holiday season can I recommend these graphic novels that I am buying for my teen: BROOMS, HELLO SUNSHINE, and S.I.R.

I think about it this a lot with comics. There are single issues of mainstream comics of big IP that legitimately are selling perhaps a couple thousand copies across the whole country. Buy that floppy or trade or book! It absolutely makes a difference!
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I really like this and I think someone should commission Claire to write a spell for being a non-completionist. Lot of slop is being made these days and I think everyone should allow themselves the liberation of not feeling like you have to watch it to the end if it sucks
Years ago I wrote a spell to stop myself caring about something and it worked. Maybe you know someone who could use it now

For folks who are newer around here, thanks for following! This is my deal; I make a free to read webcomic about love and grief and cultural expectations of masculinity through my transmasc lens ✌️

#KeepingTime
There are now 3 full chapters (that's 106 pages!!) of completely free-to-read KEEPING TIME, the queer, slow burn between two former friends and now current bandmates who - for better or worse - fall in love.

Every year around Thanksgiving, I see tons of grad students post heartbreaking messages on social media about how their loved ones don’t understand or support their decision to study what seems like something pointless or silly.

Perhaps my American Scientist essay can help!

Writing about people donating trash is — and I kid you not — the only thing (so far) to almost get me fired. White people were LIVID. And organized to get my university fired for it.

This is the holy grail of whiteness, patriarchy, and capitalism in some surprising ways.

Bless that prof!
I had a womens studies professor try to coax a class to understand that it’s not ’wrong’ for an alcoholic homeless person to take your change you tossed and spend it on alcohol. People were livid lol. It really changed my perspective on giving. its freeing to give without expectation.

Meta, YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat know how addictive their platforms can be to teens.

Those are allegations a group of school districts is making against the social media giants, according to a newly unsealed legal filing that quotes the companies’ own internal documents. https://cnn.it/3Xjq5x5
