Einstein is the first cat I've lost that I raised myself from the time he was a kitten. He had such a rough start to life, but he gave us almost 14 years of companionship.

people think we paid a lot of money for Einstein, but nah. he was born beneath our house to a very sick FiV-positive stray who died soon after. by the time we got to the kittens, only Einstein and one sister had survived, and they had severe respiratory infections and both tested positive for FiV.

I think the biggest blessing was that Einstein did so well for so long even as his tumor kept growing. Up til 10 days ago, he was still eating and playing like normal!

I just got a final email from our vet. The oncologist/surgeon cannot tell whether Einstein would be a good candidate for surgery from his ultrasound alone, so he would need a CT scan first ($2k), and the surgery itself would be $6k-$9k, and that. That is simply funds we do not have.
He's home! He has a massive tumor on his liver (his liver is mostly tumor, they said 🥲). They think it's a hepatocellular carcinoma that could be a good candidate for surgical removal, we're just waiting on the results of a fine needle aspiration to be sure.

Thank you so much to everyone who sent ko-fi donations when we first found out Einstein needed an ultrasound. Your kindness meant he got a diagnosis and we were able to get him the medication he needed to be comfortable in his final weeks. ❤️

We had to say goodbye to Einstein this afternoon. He started going downhill really quickly, but managed to have two really great last days. He left this world with a belly full of Churru, Greenies, and his favorite forbidden food: Safeway deli fried chicken.
