The meta read on all them being Ford telling a generation that grew up idolizing his roles "I'm not your dad, and if I was you would be disappointed" has been fun to turn around in my head

I do have some quibbles about the translation and some copy-editing oversights. As much as I love these books, they do still feel held back by some thinking that dates back to them being thought of as primarily "for game fans" and not "for people who like books." No bad video game cover, though.

Crossroads of Ravens engages in MAJOR prequel shenanigans but locates all of the "lore explanations" in a specific emotional place for Geralt that feels revelatory rather than annoying. The book notably doesn't rush Geralt's development into the man readers first met him as in the short stories.
