I am so f-ing tired of the ongoing petty rivalry between BS & Fedi. Both places have pros & cons FFS, some the same & some unique to themselves.

Neither one is the fucking devil, nor an affront/threat to the other’s existence.

Don’t like it? Don’t use it.

The first time we had a friend over who asked about her we explained (as she sat in my lap) her lack of interest in bouncing around and all, and as we were doing so my friend took her hair scrunchy off and tossed it slightly too hard at the coffee table, causing it to fall off the table…

lol. An ex and I got a shelter cat who basically decided I was her person and climbed up me the first time we met, but didn’t especially enjoy any toys or really *any* play, so we named her “Eliza Do-little (Like Really Little, Just the Basics Necessary to Maintain Continued Existence, We Mean It!”.

My personal feeling on it is that they’re both really good. I prefer the Mtl style - most likely because that’s my town - but NY style is a close second, and I will cheerfully chow down on one.

My sincere apologies for giving your query a bit of attitude. Re-litigating the “which is the best/correct” (to which the sanest answer is a shrug) is a fairly time-honoured tradition between Mtl/NYC Jews, and your extremely polite query came across as a really solid lead-in for a regional burn. :)

If you’re getting anywhere near the change in functionality I got after surgery for a deviated septum, then yah, it’s not pleasant, but also yah : it’s absolutely life changing. Being able to eat with my mouth closed was amazing, never mind all the other benefits.

Yup. I just got laid off (quite non-reluctantly) from a job where I had started referring to myself as a “Technical Apologist” because I wasn’t really doing support or analysis at this point. Just apologizing to frustrated clients, all day.

Not sure we read the same article there. The only one who didn’t reference the causes (anti-Canadian rhetoric/annexation threats by Trump et al, concerns about border crossings) was the very first, who was all “we just make whisky, we’re not political”

That’s fair, though I don’t share the opinion. Much like any other agglomeration of human beings, it contains multitudes, and I have zero desire to defend it. (Though I’m happy to recommend “settling in and making it yours” steps).

We already have a perfect Yiddish word, no need to find another*. It’s “shondah” or “shande” depending how you learned the term.

“Putz”, “schlemiel” & the full-name version (like yer mother yells at you in the street) “a shande fur di goyim” - a shame in front of the gentiles) also works.👍
