Union forces had suffered some 5,800 casualties but inflicted twice that on the rebels. When a chaplain asked General Thomas whether the dead should be sorted and buried by state in the new military cemetery, the Virginian who stayed loyal replied "Mix 'em up. I'm tired of states' rights.” (21

Robert Maxwell’s superyacht, the one he was found nude and dead in the water near off the Canary Islands, is currently owned by one of Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wives. It’s no longer named the Lady Ghislaine, however.

Who remembers 35 years ago, it was a huge rain and wind storm that made waves — literally — that led to record flooding in the mountains and the sinking of the old I-90 Bridge across Lake Washington?

Bought a lasagna from Cafe Lago for the holiday but our pickup time was 4PM. Distance from here to there is 4.1 miles, but trying to get to Montlake from QA or back to QA from Montlake is agony at 4 PM. Getting there was fine because we left at three. The drive back, though, was 45 minutes.

New Jersey turkeys have a "slightly coarser, grainier" meat than ordinary turkeys but the "frisson of carrion tang" in the gizzard has made them #1 Thanksgiving fare for discerning gourmets.

I chased whiskey while cooking with red wine while eating. I have never been sicker and once I stopped vomiting my wife had to drive us home with the windows down. Came back the next day to do a deep cleaning of and had to replace the linens and rug in my father-in-law’s powder room. Sober now.

I am excessively selfless (my therapist wants me to be more selfish because it isn’t actually great psychologically to not address your own needs) and my purpose is understood without children. Dudes ought to figure this stuff out before bringing kids into this world.

Seattle before national attention was a rich tapestry of musical styles but the kids who were grooving to “Touch Me I’m Sick” were likely not over-enamored with the earnest arena rock U2 was putting out at the time.
wtf, if you were a fan of grunge you also hated U2! How are people this confused?
Rattle and Hum had a Helter Skelter cover - I don't know if you can get more Gen-X than that.

We had a high school band called "John, Calvin & the Protestants" who introduced their cover of "Helter Skelter" by saying "U2 stole this song from Charles Manson. We're stealing it back." Not bc they were Manson fans, but because maximum U2 was becoming hard to bear.

The Shamwow Guy just announced that he is running for Texas’ 31st Congressional District.
