There's so much opportunity in the UK to make a whole bunch of peoples lives better by freeing up their transport choices:

Cycling is changing at speed – but is Britain keeping pace?
Emulating the bike-friendly highways enjoyed by our continental neighbours will take a lot more money and political will

Big shoutout to the nurse who gave me new asthma meds and told me to take them whenever I felt a cold coming on. It’s like the feeling of wearing glasses for the first time but for breathing

The annual Ian Martin post about the solstice is worth enduring the slimy-footpath months. Come on.
Each year a little more grateful to have done November, which lasts approximately three shitting months, then on to the polished bobsleigh track of December. It's the darkest day of the year, then it's not. Just by being alive we vanquish the dark. The light's coming back. So is hope. Love you. x

There was a short period in the UK where the ban existed in Scotland and not England. Even a few months into that pubs seemed barbaric south of the border
I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

Ashamed to say I still feel uncomfortable when atheletes talk about their period. That's for me to work out though, it's absolutely insane that it isn't just a normal part of the conversation all the time.
Had a great chat with Floortje Mackaij for @cyclist.co.uk about all different things, including her role at Movistar, speed skating, Dutch drama, and why recovering her period after a number of years without is so important to her ⤵️

Floortje Mackaij Q&A: ‘Movistar really feels like a friend group’
Cyclist: How has your off-season been this year? Floortje Mackaij: I had a really different off-season than normal. I raced

I've resurrected my Raspberry Pi and am controlling it with the command line from my mac and I have never felt so powerful in all my life. Pretty sure I could delete all of facebook with these mad hacker skills

I’m really enjoying thinking of how half a fart would be written
"off the record, off the record!" I scream midway through a loud fart. it's too late. the journalist has heard—and can include—the first part of the flatulence in the interview

This is a good thread about speed limit enforcement but I think most of the arguments are basically this
Q: I like speeding!
A: I don’t care

This blog post is magnificent.
Big new blogpost!

today’s affirmation: I am within the acceptable range of deviation. I am a perfectly roasted quail. if I was a car the mechanics would find nothing weird or rodent related in my air filter. I am upright. There are no stones or excess debris in my shoes. I still have all my bones.

Genuine benefit of being on such a conspicuous bike: neighbour saw me pushing home with a broken front wheel and came out to help in the pissing rain. Never even met the guy before but he says he enjoys watching me zoom past his house with the kids #cargobike

i love biking on a designed bike route that travels along many elementary schools which has no bike infrastructure, no traffic calming measures, and no sidewalk protections.

it's barbaric that parents are forced to pray their children are safe from any number of drivers going 20+ mph over.

I have a genuine phobia of mushrooms and get an existential ick when I see photos of them but for some reason I love lichen like this even though thy look similar 🤷‍♂️
Cute little light green pixie cup #lichen: Crowned Pixie-Cup. Appropriately named, note the obvious dentate (toothed cup edges) that resemble a crown. Usually < 1 inch tall. Habitat: duff, rotten wood. Fairly common in western Montana (McCune et al 2014).
