A president who can tear down 1/3 of the White House can tear down the entire White House. A president who can steal $230M from the treasury can steal $1T from the Treasury. We have both legalized and tolerated Trump’s crimes, so they will only get bigger.

Bannon said during his interview that Trump will run for a third term because "we have to finish what we started."

Federal Judges— or staff, but same-same— used "AI" to summarize & draft rulings, issued them w/o checking the work, leading to basic factual errors, & thus undermining the facticity & validity of the rulings entire.

Gee. Who Could Have Foreseen. *stares directly into the camera like in the office*
Two federal judges say use of AI led to errors in US court rulings
Two federal judges admitted in response to an inquiry by U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley that members of their staff used artificial intelligence to help prepare recent court orders that Grassley called "error-ridden."

Here in Seattle, furloughed NOAA employees were out in the pouring rain cleaning up beaches yesterday, part of a national week of service organized by federal workers who can't do their jobs due to the shutdown.

A friend of mine in Chicago just shared a video on IG of an ICE operation near her house. The operation happened just minutes before the neighborhood Halloween parade. ICE used tear gas and multiple parents had to wash their kids' (including toddlers) eyes out.

Again when you really boil it down, “anti wokeness” can very very often be summarized as “I’m mad a black person got a job” bsky.app/profile/hesg...
Sorry, Sarah, but you are now, officially and on the record, a moral degenerate. And you know it.

I mean sure he’s bankrupting me and people like me, but he’s also making immigrants suffer. So as you can see, it’s a hard choice.

This is what the Democrats have been raising hell about.
Well, Fam, just found out our health insurance is jumping from $1700 to over $3000 a month. And we still have to wait till Nov 1 to see more options—when the site will probably crash because everyone will be freaking out at the same time.
Was gonna also ask if we could talk about “hemispheric reengineering” but then hit myself on the head with a mallet

The "theory" is "I've got big guns and the Supreme Court said I'm immune from any criminal prosecution, and Congress lets me get away with everything, so I'm gonna murder brown people with big explosions and tell the public I'm saving them from drugs."

Saved you a click.

The East Wing’s very plainness came to symbolize the functional modesty of democratic government: a space for staff, not spectacle; for the sustaining rituals of civic life, not the exhibition of personal glory. All of that is now gone, Adam Gopnik writes. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
Why Trump Tore Down the East Wing
The act of destruction is precisely the point: a kind of performance piece meant to display Trump’s arbitrary power over the Presidency, including its physical seat.

Rule of Law Alert: Trump’s authority for country-specific tariffs comes from the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which doesn’t mention tariffs—but does require a national emergency.

An ad showing that Reagan opposed tariffs surely is not a national emergency. (It may be a personal one)

This is several days old. But amidst so much else id missed it. That’s a stunning number. No wonder they about-faced. Reminder of the power of consumers in oligarch era, not subject to the same kind of targeting.
Absolutely— def want to separate myself from the “He can’t do the thing he’s in the middle of doing.” He’s clearly able to get away with a raft of crimes he’s committed/ committing out in the open. Just hope the country doesn’t drift into a miasma of, “Is it a crime if he’s getting away with it?”

Yes - we should acknowledge the lawlessness of this without turning that into declaring it can't happen in the current environment
Does your view rest on assuming either the Constitution is “what the Supreme Court says it is” or “what powerful people abide by”?

Taking seriously Trump running for a 3d term doesn’t mean taking his _argument_ seriously. It isn’t serious. It’s lawless and it’s ok to just say that, per ⬇️
Need to be both clear about how objectively unconstitutional it is and also clear-eyed about the level of bad faith in the MAGA Justices

it's not "traditional law", it's the valid law of the land.

it's important to differentiate between what the law is and the fact that this government is breaking it on an hourly basis.

it's also important to remind people of what the law is 1/

Well into the 1990s it was not uncommon to hear demands from Democrats (and even a few Republicans!) for outright *bans* on handguns. Democrats have moved so far right on guns that their mainstream positions would have been considered gun lobby propaganda in the party 50 years ago
I wish Ezra had provided the evidence that the Democratic Party has moved “sharply left” on this laundry list of issues. To take one example, they pitched the IRA as a climate bill but also as a way of rebooting manufacturing, particularly in red states. And how have they moved left on “guns”?
