it is both true that firing bovino doesn’t change a whole lot in terms of policy and also true that they have put a lot of money, time and effort into trying to make him the “never back down, fuck you, we own this place” face of the operation, and unceremoniously kicking him to the curb is a retreat

Martinez took five bullets from a CBP agent, and DHS went into overdrive claiming she was an armed threat to the agents who were merely defending themselves. Sound familiar?

ICE has killed 9 folks in the first 26 days of ‘26:

• Alex Pretti
• Renee Good
• Keith Porter
• Heber Sanchaz Domínguez
• Victor Manuel Diaz
• Parady La
• Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz
• Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres
• Geraldo Lunas Campos

They all deserve justice. And for us to remember their names.

The Trump admin has pushed Bovino out of the Minneapolis operation, given how much he's made things worse. The person who killed Alex Pretti was a Border Patrol agent.

Notably, the admin has NOT backed down from the operation in general. Large-scale arrests reportedly continue.

Setting aside the fact that Murphy helped pass the bill that handed TikTok to Trump allies, I really don't think anyone should be citing that David Leavitt account for anything. Dude's bad news.
I know it's hard to track all the threats to democracy out there right now, but this is at the top of the list.

We do not have to be grateful that someone just now realized we are human beings just because the violence we’ve suffered under for centuries just showed up on their doorstep yesterday, Henry.

These aren’t just “opinions,” they’re peoples lives.

If you’re only addressing white people, say so.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

Every time they add a qualifier: untrained ICE, Trump's ICE, they're saying they fundamentally don't oppose ICE. Just an ICE with bad vibes, not the kind of ICE they're hoping to inherit and control themselves when it's their turn at the wheel.

Jonathan Ross *was* a firearms trainer. The guy who killed Pretti was an 8 year CBP vet. They got training from the IDF.

These worthless assholes can't keep themselves from adding qualifiers to their opposition.

Because they don't oppose ICE/CBP on principle, only aesthetics.

This group was founded post 10/7. They cleverly chose a name that makes them sound venerable and respectable but they are basically the Jewish version of Moms for Liberty, completely batshit.
I think it's really bad that the group that claims to speak for Jews at Columbia University is so grossly xenophobic.

Also - Mamdani did grow up in NYC.

a not insignificant number of people on Threads seem to believe the snow storm was The Government's attempt to refreeze the Leviathan, the world-eating serpent, which was getting loose (to eat the world, I assume)

Caveat that such a thing is never more than a highly situational snapshot of a point in time but have seen some reports from Republican voter focus groups that they tend to find him deeply distasteful and offputting and I’m betting this is part of why
Trump is such a transparent asshole but there’s something so evil about how JD Vance hides incredibly callous politics behind that nauseating “well now good sir” faux civility.

this is a fake problem. no one is saying this to regular, offline people who are coming around. they’re saying it to people who are engaged in professional political analysis who committed professional malpractice by scolding people who saw what was coming.

no, those people shouldn’t get a break.

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.
