Same, and we're coming out of an era where our local judicial slates were identical on both sides, decided ahead of time by the classic dudes in the smoky room. There was specific incentive to keep it obscure. Now they're shocked that people don't know how it works and it makes me want to scream

My only point is that it's a two way battle, and many of these committees are dropping the ball. I can't, for example, get anyone to commit to a happy hour after a canvass event. They want people to show up at Starbucks, buy their own coffee, and fuck off with their walk list.

This is 100% a fault of the Dems on the local level. If 15 indivisible groups pop up, and the committee can't be bothered to reach out, it's a problem.

Yes I have done that, and I've been actively recruiting people for this purpose. One of the things I've been trying to explain to my local committee that we need to spend more time educating our base on how this works at the local level. It's shockingly opaque to most peole.

I don’t know how many people have actually internalized this, but the vast majority of local Democratic operations are staffed and run by blue-haired little old ladies who have been doing this for 40 years and are funding it with bake sales, and are keeping the flame alive in a time when parties are as weak as they’ve ever been. If you are under the age of 50 and you show up and act normal for, like, 3 months, they will do whatever you want because they’re so excited to have a young person there. Parties are weak right now because of some factors that are outside of our control, but a lot of factors are within our control and the big one is that we just haven’t paid enough attention to the atomic-level units, and party infrastructure. If you strengthen those, then party identity as a whole will follow. Party strength as a whole will follow.

I think businesses asking people to rate every single experience has furthered this damage. We shouldn't have this many opinions about this many things, and we certainly shouldn't expect other busy people to care if we do.

few ideas have damaged the average psyche more than ‘the customer is always right.’ it should be a little bit humiliating, being a customer. you should walk into any service transaction knowing that the other person, and not you, is in control over whether you get your treats

I would also just like to point out that it is currently 52° in Portland, & we've gotten about half an inch of rain today.

A lot of people were literally nuts out for freedom in some rather cold rain today. I'm willing to bet that most of the people turning their noses up aren't willing to do that.
