tonight's election results were a load-bearing pillar of my mental health and i'm excited to announce i will NOT be going insane

My god this is for real one of the most incredible speeches I’ve ever seen by an elected US politician: ‘And if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is to dismantle the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power. This not only how we stop Trump, it’s how we stop the next one.’
Mamdani: "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves. After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him."

There is a REASON this administration started with undermining diversity

Because it is the power of PEOPLE

All people and we can NAME that

This isn’t a “debate”

This is a fight for us ALL.
If we learn nothing else tonight, please PLEASE let's learn that the American people were NOT won over by an absolute firehose of the most vile dehumanization of trans people. Please @democrats.org, for the love of God and all that's holy, let's FINALLY start refusing to throw ANYone under ANY bus.

good organizing also isn’t magic. it is about reawakening our connections with each other, being honest about our self and shared interests. it is incredibly human and it actually makes sense.

lot of messages tonight...but i don't think there's any as strong or replicable as having an identity, an ideology, and a clear message for people and then staying, without ever wavering:

"I refuse to apologize for any of this."

That he won while completely rejecting the narrative that you can only win by ditching trans people is making me feel SO MANY THINGS
UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

2. After race after race was called, Dems won by wide margins in contests where anti-trans rhetoric dominated. For all the centrist consultants urging Democrats to “moderate” or sacrifice trans people, the results suggest the opposite: conviction, is what wins.

1. On Tuesday Night, Democrats won elections nationwide in a stunning rebuke of anti-transgender politics.

From Virginia to New Jersey to New York and beyond, anti-trans candidates fell left and right after spending tons of time and money campaigning on hate.

"A Stunning Rebuke Of Anti-Trans Politics"—Dems Win Elections Nationwide Despite Anti-Trans Ads
As election results poured in on Tuesday night, it became clear that Democrats were winning nationwide against anti-trans opponents.

there are basically not enough republican voters to create enough safe seats to withstand the kind of wave that, for example, turned virginia into a democratic supermajority state for the first time in the modern era of its politics

Watching this be proven in real time as result after result comes in is washing away so much of the ever present despair I’ve been feeling for months.
As ever... the vast, vast majority of people don't want the hellscape the right is forcing on us. they really are the minority viewpoint. vocal? yes. powerful? unfortunately, yes. But there are so many more people who don't want to live in the world they're trying to make.

I know it can feel like elections in places we don’t live don’t matter but y’all it is so fucking rough in these streets for queer kids rn and every single one of these victories is going to keep more of them with us so they get to be queer adults 💕
BIG result, folks:

Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was ground zero for the conservative takeover of school boards & anti-LGBTQ policies in 2021, on the Central Bucks and Pennridge boards.

Dems flipped both boards back in 2023.

Tonight, Dems have ousted *all* Republicans from both school boards.

So many times SO MANY TIMES I have said I don't trust any politician who throws trans people and immigrants under the bus.

Look at this dude. LOOK AT THIS. He's here for ALL OF US.

There is NO EXCUSE for any politician who doesn't step up like this. No excuse.
"in this moment of political darkness, new york will be the light

"whether you are an immigrant, a member of the trans community one of the many black women that donald trump who has fired from her job... your struggle is ours too"

Mamdani has now gotten more votes than 1/4 of the members of the United States Senate did when they got elected. The political power being channeled here is immense.
THIS.
I hope we have Senator Lander one day, I really do

May tonight mark the beginning of the end for sexual abusers, rapists and all those cowards who protect them.

Get them out of politics.

Get them out of positions of power.

Put them behind bars where they belong.
we're allowed to want better for ourselves than aging rapists and the rape apologists who support them
I HAD THE VERY SAME THOUGHT. It is beautiful. It glows right out of him & inspires trust.

I know the term authenticity gets over-used these days, but it struck me that Mamdani's authenticity is truly embodied, and at our most primal level, humans respond to that. It is like the opposite of the Uncanny Valley. He is fully himself and, as he said, unapologetic about it.
I have actually not seen Mamdani give a formal speech and what I’ll say is that unlike so many of his peers he is not trying to mimic anyone in his delivery. He is simply being himself and it is very effective.
I’ve been interested in political speeches for as long as I can remember. I’ve listened to nearly every inaugural and major address, and I’ve given tons of public speeches myself.

Zohran’s talent in this arena ranks among the best. He’s damn good. Hella good. Remarkably good.

Crazy to watch.
