It's time to conduct some Universal Basic Income trials in #Auspol The Labor monopolists would never go for this but Independents and Greens might. So vote more Indies in next election. #UBI would solve all our welfare and poverty issues. #UniversalBasicIncome

The welfare system isn't just on fire, it's burning out of control
A second report into the use of job-seeker mutual obligations is even more damning then the first – but will the government act?

The post is for Webworm members, but I want to sneak this point from behind the wall (sorry David) because I think a lot of adults don't understand what social media is to today's young people.

A social media ban aims to separate kids from their communities.

Yeah this is a thing. Even non-religious or less religious straight people will give you shit for not controlling your wife or girlfriend "properly"

Hell, too many women that have been socialized completely by patriarchal misogyny will be mad at you for not trying
Back before my transition when my conservative Christian parents were still trying to groom me into being a "man", a huge point of conflict between us was that I wasn't controlling my partner enough. That I was failing to fulfill my role by not controlling my partner's behavior.
I sort of wish y'all took this more seriously, because this attitude is a reinforcement of heterosexuality as a hierarchy. It's an acknowledgement and understanding that it's not enough to "be with" a woman, or even to father children.

They define manhood as exploitation, abuse, and dominance.

And yes. There are lots of badly written sex scenes across media. And it is BECAUSE people don't respect them as a skill... And because people don't respect writers who have worked hard at that skill.

I begged Jenny to write this and am so grateful she did.

Sex scene are craft. They are characterization. They are worldbuilding. They are storytelling.

The fact that we're culturally too uncomfortable with sex to recognize that is not the fault of well written sex scenes!

One of the reasons I detest so many of these gAI companies and services is how much they erase and dehumanize actual human labor. It’s honestly terrifying and reason enough to shun them entirely.
Now imagine sharing your private fantasies with what you believe is a bot that cannot judge or remember. Just that, on the other side, is a man in a one-room home in Nairobi, pretending to be an AI companion.

That man is Michael, and this is his story: data-workers.org/michael/

And you know what really scares me? That offline, particularly in low income rural communities there’s the far right rising fast. And young leftists are losing the chance to organise resistance online because of the social media ban

Same society that sends hundreds of children aged 10 to 13 *to prison each year* (approximately 600 last time I looked) and forced thousands more through the criminal justice system?
“Freeing them to grow up in a society that protects them.”

Wow that society sounds great, where is it?

Unrelated to the age ban, but I don't think I've changed my age in my bio here for like. 3 years. I always forget. 😔One day I may actually remember.

Not today though.

There are lots of myths about the Australian #SocialMediaBan for under16s. One is that it will stop cyberbullying. It won't.

Here's a short, blunt piece from me in @theconversation.com explaining why: theconversation.com/australias-s...
Australia’s social media ban won’t stop cyberbullying
A technical fix can’t solve a social problem.
