“If the health and wellbeing of older Australians was really the government’s central concern, they would have designed a universal system based on need, not a rationed and two-tiered system where only the wealthy are guaranteed care, and for-profit providers call the shots.”
#Auspol
Today, older people across the country - hundreds of thousands of whom are on miniscule fixed incomes - will cop increased costs for their care and support so for-profit providers can continue making a buck.

How do I know this? The minister said so.

“Let them eat cake!”

It’s day 31 of the government shutdown and Trump is hosting a fancy expensive Halloween party when 42 million Americans are about to lose their SNAP.

This is a perfect example of the bloated rich excess of the billionaire class
Per Danny Kemp via press pool

Trump is at the Halloween party at MAL

“Official theme is Gatsby and ‘a little party never killed nobody’, we’re told.”

No one deserves to starve.

We have enough food to feed everyone, but we have a serious problem with wealth inequality.

We must stop viewing those who are disabled and/or poor as moral failures and start recognizing the system is rigged against us.

It’s rigged against everyone but the 1%

The secret ‘jobs for mates’ report Labor won’t release

Labor faced a dramatic revolt in the Senate over its refusal to release a secret report meant to fix the culture of cronyism – and jobs for mates.
The secret ‘jobs for mates’ report Labor won’t release
Murray Watt has talked a big game about fixing environment laws by the end of the year. But this week, attempts to do that fell apart.

This is the issue. When politicians jettison facts & evidence because it does not fit with their world view, they have lost any right to lead.
Misogyny aside; the LNP’s wilful ignorance in regard to all things scientific is a serious concern

Any party that chooses to base its political views and values on misinterpretations of biblical myths written over 3,000 years ago should not be allowed to govern anything

Day 24 of Emmanuel Garcia being in federal custody.

He’s a 15 year old autistic boy who went missing 4 weeks ago. Houston PD found him, contacted ICE & his Mom is fighting to get him back

She’s not allowed to visit him.

They’re keeping a disabled kid from his family & the media is largely silent

Facebook allowing advertising for Fascists/Neo Nazis. Reported but then Facebook community values align with fascists.
I think a mark up to $14-15 sounds fair considering they are coming from the same factory.

Your irregular reminder that entities like the Reserve Bank are empowered to do little more than “discipline” you. Inflation is complex now. RBA has one tool and it bashes workers on the head with that hammer. Threat of unemployment keeps you accepting lower wages. #AtlasNetwork #Auspol

Poor people should be allowed cookies

Disabled people should be allowed cookies

Kids whose parents are on SNAP should be allowed cookies

No one is being given “extra” money for the odd treat

They’re sacrificing something else

Let them have the treat.

Life is hard enough.
Yep. I think it will only change if Australians can drag governments back toward something resembling a social democracy.
Yes. We went through that with MIL, who was started on a stage 3 package and when they actually sent someone out to physically see her conditions raised it immediately to Stage 4
. It was never enough and we always seemed to have to be doing the legwork that should have been covered by providers.
the NDIS application process was Byzantine ( between my parntner and I we have Business, Law and Education degrees) designed to give the least help it could and that help is filtered through an NDIS provider sector rife with fraud.
Yeah. I have been lucky and frugal, I'm a relatively privileged, newly disabled person. There are people I follow here in Aus that will be consigned to a life of poverty because even here we treat the poor and disabled like crap. I felt so cared for under the medical system,
Maybe I need to start a disability collective to import cheap assistive technologies and undercut some of these sharks.
My plan is to get back to part-time work so that I don't have to rely on the NDIS and be treated like an idiot and criminal.
Cost to buy collapsible walking stick in NDIS shop $37 cost from Ali Express for exact some product $7
My new walking stick arrives today, courtesy of China Post and Australia Post. Minus the disability tax levied by NDIS providers. #NDIS #Disability
