There's a bit of a trend in recent years for using toxic pigments again.
As well as orpiment, there's realgar (another arsenic pigment), true Naples yellow (lead antimonate), & cinnabar (mercuric sulphide).
Pay actual fucken attention to safety info if you ever use them…
Orpiment:
- An arsenic sulphide mineral, so it's toxic!
- Was used as a yellow/orange pigment until safer alternatives were found
- Its name comes from the Latin "auripigmentum" (gold pigment) #minerals
