Go my Bothriolepis... This year's fish pecan pie! Bothriolepis was a peculiar-looking placoderm from the Devonian period or the Paleozoic. It had two long pointed pectoral fins and silly little eyes on top of its head.

Quite a big #earthquake with a magnitude of M6.0 about 60 northeast of Anchorage, #Alaska, a few minutes ago. Here's the seismic signal of my Raspishake seismometer 11 mins after origin time in Herne, Germany, which is 7300 km away from the epicenter. 🧪⚒️ #geology @raspishake.bsky.social

This should be the biggest quake since the M7.0 Anchorage #earthquake, which occurred almost exactly 7 years ago on Nov 30, 2018. 🧪⚒️

A M6.6 earthquake just struck the subduction zone offshore Sumatra, causing some damage and injuries on Simeulue Island.

How does this event fit into the mosaic of large earthquakes that have occurred on this fault over the last few decades?

But...

It was the comparison with @geohenning.bsky.social that made certain what was uncertain. And that's is one of the powers of #citizenscience.

Compare results, I think it's a really good match. Left our shake. Right, Henning's one. Same frequency, same energy.

I applied for many different degree programs and I was going to enroll in Computer Science But the night before, I got accepted into Geosciences from the waiting list. I had no idea what it was about, but I still changed my mind and chose Geosciences instead in the morning. BSc + MSc followed. 🤷⚒️
