Bemused at all the people suddenly following me, so uhh.

Hi? Here's some things to know.

I swear a lot. If you're offended by words like wankspangled knobcockle, I'm not for you.

I post many moths & other bugs. I talk/yell about alt text, chronic life, pencils, & paint. I post paint-making a lot…
A colour pencil drawing of an imaginary emperor moth. It has wide, fuzzy wings that are mint green with a cream border and red wavy horizontal stripes. There are also startling eye spots, one on each wing. Its body is also green and very, very fluffy. It has thin comb-like antennas. Although it is a fictional species it's still a very good moth friend.

Shiny scanned version, with less reflection off the thicker areas of pencil. Took out a few stars here & there too.

This was fun to make something with less detail than my usually finicky-arse drawings, & based on a prompt for something I wouldn't have thought about otherwise! 😁

I've definitely overdone the stars here! 😂 So gonna tweak that a bit.

But this is supposed to be a fun drawing not a super-serious one. So I'm mostly gonna scan it and not be too fussy.

Filled in the halo. Went around the edges of the moths & plant with a white oil pencil first. To try to stop any bleeding from the dark blue. Mostly worked!

Time to add some green to the moths & some colour pencil shading all round. 😁

Here you go. Sap green (buckthorn berries and weld) and ash pigments.
My hand holding a jar of sap green pigment powder, and a sachet of ash powder. The sap green is from Kremer Pigmente and the ash is from polbens pigments.

I think the ability to create art without AI IS gatekeeping. It's also classist if you know the recipe to soup. And if you can tell the difference between a cat and a dog, it counts the same as hazing.

It's Friday, time to mess about!

Undercolouring this in alcohol marker instead of watercolour. Deliberately picking up some of the pencil outline with pens to make fuzzy moth wings.

Undeliberate pen leak made some green spots that smudged tho. Gonna cover it up with snowflakes 😂

Moth season is coming...

Here's some friends I'm hoping to see this spring.
A majestic fluffy brindled beauty moth, sitting on a grey cardboard egg tray from my moth trap. It has a triangular-ish overall shape, everything about it is fluffy, and it's light tan in colour with black horizontal stripes. A+ moth friend, would recommend. A glorious oak beauty moth on my hand. It has a triangular-ish overall shape like the brindled beauty, it's body is super fluffy, and it has comb-like antennas. It's wings have a pattern of horizontal brown and white stripes with black peppery speckles. 11 out of 10 good moth.

🙏 Help me hive mind - does anyone have a link I can share to info on why a lot of phone cameras make blue-greens & teals look just blue? I saw something on here a while ago on a post about blue-green minerals, but can't find it now.

Still getting used to where to put my face relative to phones etc.

I feel like this combined with a phone that likes aggressively switching language mid-sentence… it's gonna end in me accidentally texting profanity to some in-law or something.

You know a good giveaway that 'using whistles is disabilist' is not rooted in good faith or community care? I have seen no serious discussion about how to include Deaf/HoH folks in rapid notification. How are we quickly notifying targeted Deaf/HoH folks who can't hear whistles/shouts?

I started outlining this tonight, rolling over the graphite with a putty eraser to lighten it & going over the outline with colour pencil.

But 1st I spent chuffing ages trying to find the kinda compass's you can put a pencil in. I've 6 that have the little tiny leads. 🙃
