their plainly stated goal is to starve forty million people until they get what they want, which is to rip health care away from millions more

that this is too monstrous for most news organizations to tell the truth about does not change the facts
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

This is kinda funny. A nerdy patent lawyer was unhappy with the options for home automation products, so he started his own company as a side hustle - with all open source firmware and explicit instructions for hacking. He has bulbs, plugs, and switches so far.

The flawed story:

*doesn’t quote a single medical expert
*fails to apply skepticism to claims CPCs make about their medical services
*doesn’t explain health risks CPC clients face
*will likely be republished by other outlets that pay for AP content
The Associated Press Does Free PR for Crisis Pregnancy Centers
A recent story is a glaring example of how traditional journalistic “objectivity" is far from unbiased, and can even facilitate the spread of disinformation.

This is their goal. Let people starve to death, blame it on the Democrats, and they've reduced the number of those who vote for their opponents. Same as with letting COVID rip. 'So (poor, disabled, elderly, veteran, pregnant, rural, young, Black, brown, queer) people die? So what?'
Thinking about how poor disabled and aging people may be impacted this is a multitude of ways–they may not be able to get food, and their care workers may not either (for those who have them), leading to less good support for disabled folks as starving people don't make the best workers.

Quietly devastating. How AI firms lied, cheated and robbed their way to killing the open web and decades of mutually agreed, protocol-based technical cooperation

All technologists who work for them are culpable.

They murder knowledge and systems of informal and hard-learned collaboration and care.
"The protocol taught us that technology can be based on human values like ethics and morality. It showed that voluntary compliance works when all parties benefit."

Sam Altman’s AI empire will devour as much power as New York City and San Diego combined. Experts say it’s ‘scary’ | Fortune

The headline here is “Hegseth announces changes that will protect domestic abusers in the military.” Even though this is incontestably true, no news organization will use this headline, because telling the truth is deemed impermissible if the truth hurts the right too much
Hegseth: "We are overhauling an inspector general process that has been weaponized, putting complainers and poor performers in the driver seat. We are doing the same with the equal opportunity policies. No more frivolous complaints, no more anonymous complains ... no more walking on eggshells."

Again this is because they have a desired moral economy which has no relationship to the actual economy.
1. More Americans work at the Cheesecake Factory than in the entire coal industry, and that won't change. It's because of automation, not snooty libs.

2. Coal energy is now more expensive than wind and solar.

3. So this means: higher energy prices, more pollution, no jobs benefit. Genius!
Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Fox: "We're announcing today expanded programs to help the American coal industry. We're helping it because for years it has been under assault. It was out of fashion with the chardonnay set in San Francisco, Boulder, and NYC ... coal just makes the world go round."

Cisgender women: trans people now; then they're coming for IVF, for perimenopause HRT, for birth control.
They've already classified any birth control that prevents implantation as an abortifascient.
oh look, it’s literally the thing i wrote about for @rollingstone.com happening in real time. as we speak. like exactly what i reported, like a carbon copy.

as a reminder, here’s what i said people within the party and trans care advocates believe will most likely happen next.

This is something that I think needs to be said more for the young people. This shit got worse. Google was more useful in 2006 than it is today. Meemaw and Peepaw regularly post shit on Facebook that would have got you banned from Newgrounds.
Silicon Valley also just doesn’t make good shit anymore and are mad they lost the deference that comes with a reputation for competence.

Recalling the time a young person read scripture during a worship service at our national gathering, and pronounced the tribe "hi-Tit'-eez". The response from the crowd was subdued, thankfully. Practice what you'll read liturgically with others, folks!
Once when I was a kid, in Sunday school I was called on to read a verse from the Bible. I was a very shy, easily flustered kid. The verse I had to read contained the word gentiles. The way I mispronounced it made the Sunday school teacher turn bright red 😅

Don't have a heart attack on the Friday of a three day weekend! The hospital insists on keeping me whilst no one reviews my echocardiogram, & cath lab isn't staffed until TUES. So I sit and WAIT through Sat, Sun, & Mon?! Getting charged godless amounts of $ to get my vitals checked every 4 hours.

For 12 months, America had a limited proof of concept for universal healthcare, and it was so uniformly successful we had no choice but to obliterate our society
I keep thinking about how the COVID vaccine was rolled out for free for all Americans in 2021 by the federal & state governments with support from local health departments & universities. Since, we have seen the privatization of delivery thru commercial pharmacies & the need for insurance coverage.
NEWS: CVS, the largest pharmacy chain in the country, is currently not offering Covid vaccines in 16 states and DC — even to people who meet the new FDA criteria — because the CDC hasn't signed off and isn't expected to do so (if it does so) for at least three weeks.

There will be many casualties from UChicago ending ('pausing') PhD admissions in Humantities, but one which I am keenly aware of: this is close to a death sentence for teaching cuneiform in the United States (esp. Sumerian, Hittite, Elamite, Eblaite, Luwian) and it will affect the whole world.
