Couldn't agree with this more. Very indicative of the divide between the people who want to actually make a human connection with someone and those who view it as a monotonous game where they're trying to get a physical reward with the least effort possible. It's very sad ultimately.
Our college organised a trip to Parliament to sit in the public gallery. Obviously booked way in advance. It turned out to be the day they debated going to war in Iraq, I got to see the top of Tony Blairs head as he argued about it.
A serious country would recognise the astonishing soft power the bbc world service offers. There are a bunch of other countries who would kill for an institution like that.
