If you have questions about the playoff, how the process works and where Notre Dame stands after last night, @mbryan.bsky.social and I did our best to answer them in a tidy 30 minutes. Odds, metrics, conspiracies -- all the pieces matter.

Sure but I don’t think it should have anything to do with CFP ranking. Plus, is the ACC just going to wait to announce their championship game participants til Tuesday night after the last regular season game?
Yes, but if Duke pulls off the upset and the ACC gets left without a team in the playoff, that tie breakers system is getting changed before February.
December 1, 2025 at 10:49 PM
I do understand this argument about the ACC tiebreakers not panning out the way the ACC probably hoped, but do people really want the ACC championship tiebreaker to be decided by which team has the best out of conference wins? That seems completely antithetical to the whole operation.
One thing I’ve not really seen to this point is that if Miami really wants to feel aggrieved, they should blame the ACC. If you have a huge conference where everyone doesn’t play each other, how does your tiebreaker not account for ranking on some level?

But there are way more than 2 teams on the bubble, and of all of the teams on the bubble Miami clearly has the worst 2 losses on their resume, so then you can see why ND and others are ahead.
December 1, 2025 at 9:26 PM
I really don’t understand this argument for not scheduling ND and Miami doesn’t really have a choice if it’s part of the ACC agreement. This game has been on the schedule since 2014.

And again, is Miami on the bubble because head to head doesn’t matter or because they lost to SMU and Louisville?
It only matters if ND makes it in and Miami does not. Both teams made their beds if they miss it. But there’s no case for putting ND in over Miami at this point. If they do that, no school should schedule ND going forward; it’s clearly not worth the risk and just helps ND with a “quality loss”

one nice thing about this website is that you can disagree about sports things and no one calls you the c-word unlike my mentions on the other site and I think that’s neat!

I do not think this is a legitimate reason ND is ranked ahead of Miami. But I agree on the second part so,
They also plainly would prefer ND's audience to Miami's audience.

I used to love college ball, but this season has been gross in ways that makes it feel so obvious that there is no merit in the sport and it's simply a game of greed and corruption.

An awful mirror of the rest of our society.

Notre Dame does not benefit because they have no road to an automatic bid. The margin every year is win 12 or 11 and you’re probably in, win 10 and it’s dicey. Miami, even with two bad losses, still had a path to the acc championship if things shook out for them.
For me, their schedules are very similar, and I do think Notre Dame lucks out from being an independent in some voters eyes.

I just want the regular season to matter in an ever-expanding playoff format.
December 1, 2025 at 8:21 PM
I have been pretty consistent about this for the whole season. If ND doesn’t make it they have no one to blame but themselves. However, you can say the same for Miami, who lost to two teams in the ACC that were not very good this year.
Why play the games if head to head isn’t going to matter?
Chris, in all of the examples you listed, Notre Dame is ahead of Miami.
