"a single person of this demographic may have committed a crime, therefore we must punish the entire demographic" is a policy response you may recognize from fascist governments dedicated to ethnic cleansing elsewhere.

Dear foreign nationals in war-torn countries, terrorism hot-spots, and amidst our enemies:

If you help the United States, we’ll fuck you over and abandon you. Not the individual servicepeople or intelligence officers — they’ll fight for you. I mean the depraved, soulless leadership of the nation.
So now they’re going to be doing individualized re-review of tens of thousands of Afghan evacuees’ cases on TOP of the re-review of 200,000+ refugees who entered under Biden?

I want to make an additional point here regarding the part of the reporting in the screen shot.

This is not surprising at all. It has been a hallmark of the influence operation that Russia has run on American white evangelical Christians for over fifteen years. 1/

The Trump regime granted the suspected shooter asylum earlier this year.

Now they are taking his alleged crime out on all Afghan nationals seeking entrance to the US.

Another ban. Another excuse for violence and deportation.

People will die, and are currently dying, because RFK was granted one of the most powerful megaphones in the country. Two people who could have thrown barriers in front of his climb decided not to; there's a sex scandal here but it is not the biggest scandal.

I just feel awful for the National Guard troopers caught up in this. They’re just standing around looking bored all the time, but they have been made into a deliberate symbol by the Trump admin and that may have made them a target for this gunman.
BREAKING: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Trump administration would send hundreds of additional National Guard soldiers to the nation’s capital after two soldiers were shot in the city Wednesday.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

The Governor of West Virginia now has two conflicting back-to-back posts about the health status of the two National Guard members who were shot in Washington, DC.

I have deleted my previous post sharing the news that they had died.

Almost certainly a targeted attack at two people who had basically nothing to do with the moment and would have preferred to be home with their families. Compounded tragedy.

I am horrified that multiple people have been shot in Washington, including members of the National Guard. My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and every emergency responder on the ground.

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it.

Non-litigators, and non-lawyers, especially, might not quite understand how incredibly rare frivolousness sanctions are.

I have seen them, I think, twice, in sixteen years.
NEWS: A federal appeals court pane upholds the $1 million sanction against Trump and Habba for a "frivolous" lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, Comey, et al.

"Many of Trump’s and Habba’s legal arguments were indeed frivolous," Judge Pryor wrote.

Sue to invalidate the action because it was done because of terrorist threats of violence. Cite the guarantee clause.

It can't be constitutional for the president to coerce state legislative action by threatening to murder state legislators.

As @gregsargent.bsky.social points out, Trump *has* given illegal orders.

But he’s also so allergic to democratic ideals that the very idea of a military (or any other institution) that serves the people rather than the ruler is totally illegible and incomprehensible to him.

This is why I say we are in a cold civil war. The MAGA right is a terrorist front. They may be on the back foot politically, but they are playing the game of war, not politics.

What we are seeing in this country is the complete erosion of the rule of law and the idea that justice and fairness are related concepts.

There is only one way American democracy will be restored.
